When you press two keys of the opposite direction at the same time, such as A and D (left and right), by default, this results in a null (cancelling) input and stops your character movement.

This can cause unintended movement delays in quick strafing in Valorant, Overwatch, and other competitive shooter games, and can mean the difference between life or death in duels. Fighting games may also require accurate successive keystrokes for successful combos.

* Always check to make sure such a function is permitted when playing online or competitively.

Speed Tap provides more consistent outcomes, by always prioritizing the last keypress, bypassing the default null input outcome and making strafing feel smoother.

Without Speed Tap

Speed Tap Off GIF.gif

The avatar stops when both keys are pressed and won’t move until there is only one input.

Speed Tap On

Speed Tap prioritizes the new input, overriding the previous keystroke, ensuring almost no movement delay.

Helpful tip:  Combine Speed Tap with Rapid Trigger to achieve the smoothest and fastest strafing in fast-paced shooter games.

Speed Tap removes the potential for SOCD movement error where a character will stay still for longer than intended. This means that there is only ever a split moment where the character will stand still before moving againYou should practice with Speed Tap to balance between fluid strafing and maintaining weapon accuracy due to the increased mobility.

With ROG, Speed Tap Does Not Require HFX Analog Switches

Speed Tap is of course supported on the ROG Falchion Ace HFX, but also the Azoth Extreme, Azoth, Falchion RX Low Profile, Strix Scope II 96 RX WirelessStrix Scope II 96 Wireless via the newest firmware updates, and support for more models are on the way! Quickly toggle Speed Tap on and off with the following hotkeys for your respective keyboard:

  Hotkey
Falchion Ace HFX Fn + Tab
Falchion RX Low Profile
Azoth Extreme FN + Caps
Azoth
Strix Scope II 96 RX Wireless
Strix Scope II 96 Wireless

Helpful tip: Upon toggling, the Speed Tap keys (A and D) will illuminate white to indicate Speed Tap ON and red to indicate Speed Tap OFF.

*The ROG Falchion Ace HFX, Azoth Extreme, and Strix Scope II 96 RX Wireless can also toggle and customize more keys for the Speed Tap effect in Armoury Crate.

Customize Speed Tap

1. To begin, find your Speed Tap-compatible keyboard and click on Keys or Analog Trigger to find Speed Tap.

2. Click on the switch below to turn Speed Tap on or off.

Keys A and D are the default key bindings for Speed Tap. You can add up to 4 additional bindings for the Speed Tap effect by clicking on the edit icon:

Helpful tip: While Speed Tap helps me move in games more smoothly, I am more used to the default effect when typing. This is why I only have it enabled for my gaming profile and not for my productivity profile, so I don’t have to manually turn Speed Tap on and off. Try creating your own profiles so that all the keys can change and do exactly what you want, when you want.

@Whykeysay

Speed Tap is currently supported for certain keyboards mentioned in the guide. Also, it can only be customized for the ROG Falchion Ace HFX, Azoth Extreme, and Strix Scope II 96 RX Wireless. Otherwise it's only applicable to A and D keys.

PLEASE make the default option for snaptap to be OFF!!! Every time I charge my RX Falchion low profile it randomly turns on and it kicks me from my counter strike games... This is a big flaw with this keyboard and it would be completely solved if the default for it was OFF.

PLEASE!!!!

@gster1091

Sorry that this is happening to you. Speed Tap is programmed to be off by default. Do you mean that when you use your keyboard while charging, Speed Tap will turn itself on in the middle of the game? Or that when you charge the keyboard in general, Speed Tap will be turned on after charging?

Good to know about the Fn key and the A and D Feature.

is there plan to have this showing int he Armour crate? Would be easier then to remember FN key + caps .

Thanks!

And Rapid trigger is currently only enable for extreme and the falchion, is this on keyboard program or can /will this be available in the upcoming firmware for the azoth for example?

Thanks

@MissKalunji There's currently software support (Armoury Crate) for the ROG Falchion Ace HFX, Azoth Extreme, and Strix Scope II 96 RX Wireless, but this may be expanded in the future!

Rapid Trigger is currently available for Hall Effect keyboards (Falchion Ace HFX) using magnetic or specialized switches.

@Howwanna The keyboard will randomly have the speed tap functionality randomly turned back on. The only way i figure this out is by getting kicked out of competitive matches on counter strike 2... It's infuriating to say the least. This setting randomly turns on by itself.

@gster1091 Please make sure that you are choosing one of the factory profiles on the keyboard (default profiles 1-5), turn off Speed Tap, and save the settings. Make sure you are not accidentally switching keyboard profiles throughout the game.

If the keyboard is indeed turning Speed Tap on by itself, please perform a quick hardware reset by pressing Fn + Caps Lock for a few seconds, and check that the keyboard and its dongle firmwares are up to date. Please let me know if these fixes solve your issue.
