When you own an ROG peripheral, some may leave premium extras in the box where it is then forgotten and perhaps thrown out, because let's face it - you don't usually see anything bundled that's worth getting excited about. As those who have been part of the ROG family know, some of these extras may just make your life easier and your setup moar ROG, or perhaps even give you an edge. Take the ROG Polling Rate Booster, for example, who else bundles something like this except ROG?
Below is a quick guide on which premium extras are offered, how they work, and some tips and tricks to get the most out of your new fancy gear.
To keep a competitive edge over your opponents, you’ll want your device to be as responsive as possible. This is where the polling rate booster comes in – as the name suggests, compatible ROG devices get a massive boost so your keyboard or mouse can report to the PC what it's doing 8000 times per second (8,000Hz) instead of 1,000, which lowers latency significantly.
For mice, reporting input signals more frequently means less delay between each movement input, resulting in smoother and more accurate swiping and tracking movements.
Keep in mind that surpassing the standard 1kHz polling rate with the Polling Rate Booster can impact power consumption for wireless mice far more than keyboards for the simple reason that one is virtually always active. Below is a table for more details on how higher polling rates impact battery life on the Harpe Ace Extreme, for example.
Polling Rate |
Battery Life, lighting off |
1000Hz |
~70 hours |
2000Hz |
~21 hours |
4000Hz |
~17 hours |
8000Hz |
~15 hours |
*Bluetooth mode* |
~98 hours |
Much like hypercars and sports cars: if you want go hard, you need more juice.
Helpful tip: Make use of the profiles so the ultra-high polling rate are enabled automatically only when gaming. How much benefit is also dependent on your system performance.
The booster comes bundled with the Azoth Extreme and Harpe Ace Extreme. Check if your gear comes with one bundled (available separately for models given 8K support recently), you may have mistaken it for an RF Receiver Extender.
As the name suggests, the Receiver Extender acts as an extension to the USB port on your PC, essentially bringing your RF Receiver (dongle) closer to your wireless device. For users whose PCs are farther away from their devices, the receiver extender can close this gap to optimize wireless performance.
Use the Receiver Extender alongside the Polling Rate Booster for the most stable connection at up to 8000Hz polling rate. Simply connect the USB receiver, the Receiver Extender, and the Polling Rate Booster together into the PC in 1 of 2 ways shown below and you’re set to go:
A metal clip keeps the extender in place, designed for clipping onto hard or soft mousepads 2-3mm thick. The groove was added to accommodate mousepads with stitched edges. This goes to show how much detail goes into design, no matter how small.
Once you’ve maxed out your wireless connectivity and performance, here's something else to maximize freedom of movement.
ROG mice now come with extra premium mouse feet, should you need to replace them. Made with 100% PTFE Teflon, the ROG Omni Mouse Feet provide an easy glide across any surface. These mouse feet are designed with round-edges to give you consistent and smooth glides in any direction. This is a small and minor detail people may often overlook, underestimating its importance, unless you've had the misfortune of owning a mouse with some pointy mouse feet (where the design might look cool) which destroyed the cloth mousepad, or induced inconsistent mouse movement while gaming.
For tips on replacing mouse feet, refer to the tips below.
For users looking for even smoother and more effortless mouse movements, the Harpe Ace Extreme comes with an additional set of Corning Gorilla Glass Mouse Feet in the box for your gliding pleasure. Despite already being extremely lightweight at 47g, the glass mouse feet further reduce surface friction to make the mouse even faster.
Helpful Tip: You may fantasize about using the ultra-smooth glass feet on the Moonstone glass mousepad for ultimate mouse skating, however, should any small (hard) particles get in between then there is the danger of scratches on the surfaces. Please only attempt glass-on-glass action at your own discretion... in other words, PLEASE DON'T.
To swap out the original Omni mouse feet for new ones, begin by removing the original ones.
Tip: if you have strong fingernails, carefully pry the mouse feet off with them. If not, find an appropriate tool without scratching/damaging the mouse.
Once you have all mouse feet removed, prepare and prime your new mouse feet for placement by bending the plastic film a little. Avoid touching the sticky side of the glass mouse feet to maintain its stickiness.
Using your fingers to hold on to the new feet edges, slowly place it down onto the corresponding mouse feet seats, aligning an edge of the feet to the edge of its seat until you make contact, and carefully lay across. Once you are happy with the positioning, gently but firmly press on the newly placed feet, and you are done!
Available for: ROG Gladius III Wireless Aimpoint, Harpe Ace Aim Labs Edition, Harpe Ace Mini, Harpe Ace Extreme, Keris II Ace, Keris Wireless & Aimpoint
Pimp your mouse by applying the bundled pre-cut ROG-patterned mouse grip tape for an alternative style and stronger grip.
The cable is certainly something you don't want any grip whatsoever. ROG provide you with premium cables with industry-leading flexibility and lightness so that whether on the wire or just charging, you have minimal drag and ultimate mouse freedom. The ROG Paracord is tested to only require 0.8gf to bend, which is more than twice as soft as many other mouse cables on the market.
In the event that you need to use your ROG mouse wired, the provided Paracord will ensure you have minimal drag resistance compared to using other cables, even without a mouse bungee.
Besides endlessly perfecting the gear, ROG goes above and beyond to not only push the spec limit but improve the overall user experience. Apart from the Polling Rate Booster, Receiver Extender, spare mouse feet, and Paracord, you'll likely find extra ROG stickers, cable tie, and more depending on the model.
The reusable loop cable ties are often bundled to help you better manage and organize your cables to keep your setup as clean as you like. The incremental sizing hole design allows for a neat and snug fit with a wide range of cable sizes.
You may further personalize your gear with the bundled ROG stickers, or simply display your allegiance to the republic.
Each product can be different, make sure to check the box contents.
Which bundled extras do you use and what else would you like to see in the future? And what have you thrown out lately...
