If you’re only using Gear Link for basic button remaps, you’re missing one of the best quality-of-life features: Companion Mode. It adds extra assignment options for both mice and keyboards, mainly aimed at quick productivity/media actions.

Keyboard Companion adds

  • Multimedia: Mute Microphone

  • Quick Access: Windows shortcut

  • Quick Access: Preset input text

  • Quick Access: Open website

  • Key Assignment: Gaming mode

Mouse Companion adds

  • Multimedia: Mute Microphone

  • Quick Access: Windows shortcut (Show desktop, Switch apps, Close apps, Cut/Copy/Paste, Undo, etc.)

  • Quick Access: Preset input text (up to 300 characters)

  • Quick Access: Copilot

  • Quick Access: Stealth (minimise all windows + mute audio)

If you’re building profiles (Gaming / Multimedia / Work), these are the binds that make the “non-gaming” profiles actually worth switching to.

How to install Companion Mode (via Gear Link)

  • Open Gear Link in your browser.

  • Select your device (mouse/keyboard).

  • Click Companion located at the bottom of the left-hand menu.

  • From here, you’ll see the Companion status:

    • If it isn’t installed, choose Install.

    • If it’s already installed, you’ll see Installed and/or an Update option if a newer version is available.

  • Once installed, go back to Button/Key Assignment and look for the extra categories (e.g. Quick Access, Mute Microphone, Stealth, etc.).

Installation Troubleshooting

Currently, some versions of Google Chrome (version 142 or later) and Microsoft Edge (version 143 or later) have introduced a new security feature called Local Network Access (LNA).

Under certain conditions, this feature may prevent Gear Link from detecting the Companion App correctly.

To help resolve this, could you please try the following steps to ensure Local Network Access is allowed:

  1. When a browser window pops up requesting Local network access, please make sure to click “Allow.”
  2. If the prompt does not appear, please manually check the setting:
    • Open Gear Link
    • Click the URL bar → Site settings
    • Find Local network access
    • Confirm it is set to “Allow”
    • If it is set to “Blocked” or “Ask,” please change it to “Allow.”
  3. After updating the setting, please refresh the Gear Link page and check whether the issue is resolved.
