Zephyrus G16(GA605WV) External Monitor Booting Issue

link_
Level 7

When using the Zephyrus G16(GA605WV) with a docking station (CM681) connected to two LG 4K monitors, the system encounters a blue screen and enters an infinite reboot loop during boot.

  • Attempts to Resolve the Issue:

    • Updated BIOS and all drivers to the latest versions

    • Performed a system reset

    • However, the issue persists

  • Notable Observations:

    • The system boots normally when the GPU mode is set to "Ultimate," but all other modes result in a blue screen

    • If the docking station is connected after booting, both monitors are recognized and function properly

    • When using dual monitors, putting the system to sleep causes only one monitor to be recognized upon waking up (This issue occurs only on the G16, not on other laptops.)

Is there a way to resolve this issue?

I wouldn't say its the BIOS but more a compatibility issue, for example this docking station may not work well with the display switch in the laptop, or its just a compatibility issue.

Another consideration is the actual display driver for the CPU, maybe try a later one if available from AMD, If your laptop is the HX 370 CPU. (Search your CPU on their support / download page)

Hello,

This could be a bug / issue with the display switching chip, in the BIOS set the preferred display to dGPU and see how it goes. This option should make the nvidia GPU active and default on boot.

Thank you for your reply.

Enabling the eGPU in the BIOS allows the system to boot. It seems to work the same way as Ultimate mode.

So, does this mean it's a BIOS issue, and there’s nothing else I can try for now?
