TL;DR:
Laptop crashes (black screen + max fans) only when plugged in and idle, never during gaming.
Happens almost instantly now; only workaround is keeping GPU active by running a game in the background.
I’ve been running into a recurring stability issue on my 2020 Zephyrus G14 and wanted to see if anyone’s actually found a fix.
Specs: Ryzen 7 4800HS · GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q · 16 GB RAM · 512 GB SSD · Windows 11
When the laptop is plugged in but idle or under light load (browsing, YouTube, etc.), the screen goes black and a few seconds later the fans ramp to 100%. The system completely freezes and only a hard shutdown (holding the power button) recovers it.
It almost never happens under load, I can run Valorant or other GPU-heavy tasks for hours without a crash. It’s only when the system enters a low-power/idle state that it becomes unstable.
What’s strange is that it used to happen once or twice a day, but now it triggers almost immediately after plugging in the charger if the system is idle.
Right now the only workaround I’ve found is to launch a game first, then plug in the charger, basically keeping the GPU active prevents the crash.
Has anyone found a real fix for this on the GA401IU? I've seen multiple posts here as well as reddit but I couldn't find a solution.

I was told to do a factory reset. It did not work. I can't find anything online that's worked at all. And it's not an overheating problem because it does it as soon as I boot up while plugged in.

******, that’s so frustrating.
I’ve been trying so hard to find a solution but haven’t had any luck either.
