Thermalpad thickness on additional NVMe M.2 for ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE

Hi Guys,

ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE, bought in June, 2021

Questions: What is the right thermalpad thickness for additional SSD NVMe M.2 for ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE ?

If someone interested in the SSD NVME model, it is Crucial P3 Plus PCIe 4.0 NVMe

I contacted support, but it was a joke. They said first "they do not recommend add thermalpad", but when I said "when people open a back lid, the main original SSD you have provided, has thermalpad attached.. so why it's not recommended for additional SSD", and the answer was "hmmmmmm...". After that I asked about THEIR thermalpad thickness.. but they said "they don't share this information" (in other words they don't know).

Why I didn't check this myself ? There are few answers:

  • I shouldn't - they should have it in the spec online. This is not a cheap toy, this was the top tier most expensive laptop on the market
  • If specification online doesn't have it, support should find the answer - as I paid for extensive support
  • The online page and support doesn't know the correct screwdriver I can use to open the laptop. On the official webpage they claim PHILIPS head (NOT TRUE), and via call they said the same. The guy on the phone said "a star screwdriver", but when I ask "how many sides does a star have?", he said "4"... so I said.. "well, it's definitely not a PHILIPS HEAD, because I can see 6 sides"

So guys, please help - if anyone added or replaced SSD in their laptop, please share what thermalpad thickness you used and whether you checked it touch the back lid surface. I'm thinking to buy 1,5mm because usually it's elastic (so I can squize it by a lid), and the whole idea is - it must touch the lid, otherwise the thermalpad won't work.

Any additional thought much appreciate. Have a nice day
