There is a way to set the default GPU to the nvidia only upon turning on the laptop, this is usually an option in the BIOS that you set to dGPU. (preferred display adapter). However I'm not sure if this will cause a permanent black screen if the issue is with a chip that controls the switching of the GPUs (display MUX controller).

You can try this but should you then be faced with a permanent black screen you will need to perform a BIOS / EC reset to restore the default setting, one would simply hold down the power button for 30-40s when the laptop is off and plugged in.

Worth trying as long as the EC reset works, maybe do an EC reset first, so you know it can be reset, see if te problem remains and if so, change the option. Should this work it may get your laptop screen back up and running, just means you are always on the nvidia GPU. The intel GPU offers some power savings if your interested in that.

Hello,

When you tried the external monitor was everything ok, like performance and was it using the nvidia GPU?

Yes everything looked fine my GPU temp was at 50°C and was being used i could run games just fine using the external monitor just couldn't use the laptops display

I cannot confirm whether this will work or not, but it seems to have fixed my issue with the black screen when trying to open Diablo 4. Open the nvidia control panel (not the nvidia app) and under 3D settings, go into Manage Display Mode. Mine was set to Automatic Select by default, I just selected NVIDIA GPU only and now I am able to play Diablo 4.

Thank you for trying to help but sadly this did not fix the issue

Your Asus ROG Zephyrus G16’s internal screen going black when launching games is likely due to the GPU switching from integrated to discrete graphics, causing display output issues. Here’s a short, effective solution:
Update BIOS, Windows, and GPU drivers to the latest versions.
Use the HDMI port for external monitors if you want them driven by the discrete GPU, as some USB-C/Thunderbolt ports output only via integrated graphics.
Press Windows + P and ensure the correct display mode (Duplicate/Extend) is selected.
If problem persists, try resetting the Embedded Controller (EC) and perform a hard reset (power off, unplug, hold power button 30 seconds).
Check Asus official troubleshooting guides for external display issues for your model.
This approach usually resolves black screen and external monitor detection problems on Zephyrus G16 laptops.
