ROG Zephyrus G16 Thunderbolt issues waking up from sleep

I recently purchased a ROG Zephyrus G16 GU605CW and am encountering a Thunderbolt issue. I connected a QNAP 10 GbE network adapter (QNA-T310G1S) to the Thunderbolt 4 port (on the left side) and installed the Marvell network drivers for it. Initially, the network performed well, and I achieved 10GbE throughput.

The issue started when the computer went to sleep and woke up again. The wired connection was lost, and the PC reverted to its WiFi connection. Even when I tried to plug the adapter back in, it no longer worked until I restarted the computer. And, in almost all cases, I had to force a restart by holding the power button for a long time because the Windows restart process would hang.

Sometimes, the computer even froze while in sleep mode. The only way to restart is, again, holding the power button for a long time.

I believe there might be an issue with the power settings for the Thunderbolt port. Is there a way to configure it such that the above freezing behavior doesn't occur?

Here’s solution for your ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 GU605CW Thunderbolt sleep/wake issue:

  • Disable USB selective suspend & power saving:
In Device Manager, under “Universal Serial Bus controllers” and “Network adapters,” right-click the QNAP/Marvell device > Properties > Power Management, and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
  • Change Windows Power Plan:
Set your Windows power plan to “High performance” and disable Fast Startup (Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > uncheck “Turn on fast startup”).
  • Update all drivers & BIOS:
Download the latest Thunderbolt and chipset drivers from ASUS for your exact model. Update the BIOS if an update is available.
  • Hibernate instead of Sleep:
Use Hibernate instead of Sleep. Sleep often causes Thunderbolt devices to disconnect or freeze; hibernate is more reliable for such setups.

These steps should improve Thunderbolt reliability after sleep. If the problem remains, consider posting logshere for further troubleshooting
