Hello all,
I am facing an issue with my Zephyrus G15. Both of my USB-C ports have stopped outputting a video signal (DisplayPort Alt Mode).
System & Hardware:
Laptop: ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 GA503RM
Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G70B (4K 144Hz)
Cable: Paugge Type C to DP 1.4 (Complies with the VESA “DisplayPort Alternate Mode on USB Type-C Connector” Standard).
OS: Windows 11 Pro, fully updated.
For months, I used a USB-C to DisplayPort cable to connect my laptop to a monitor. It always worked without problems, 4K 144 Hz. Then I started getting occasional flickering, which got worse over a few days. Sometimes I was having half a second black screen and continued to work just fine. 3 days ago I plugged my laptop and the external display would show only a green, corrupted screen (attached image). Eventually it stucked at the same green screen no matter how many times I tried plugging unplugging restarting etc.
I thought it was the cable and called the company and asked for a new cable because it was under warranty. They sent me a new cable which is exactly the same model as the old one.
The Problem persisted with the new cable
- When I plug the new USB-C cable into either port, I hear the Windows "device connect" sound.
- The monitor shows "No Signal" and no image is displayed. (Not even the green corrupted screen).
- In Device Manager, under "Universal Serial Bus controllers," a device appears with a yellow warning triangle: "USB 2.0 BILLBOARD".
- The main HDMI port on the laptop works perfectly with the same monitor. This confirms the GPU and monitor are working.
TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS I HAVE ALREADY PERFORMED:
Software / Driver Resets:
- Checked Armoury Crate: GPU Mode is on "Standard".
- Checked Windows Projection: Tried "Extend" and "Duplicate" (Win + P).
- Device Manager Resets:
- Uninstalled the "UCM-UCSI ACPI Device" and restarted.
- Uninstalled all "USB Root Hub" devices and restarted.
- Uninstalled all "USB Host Controller" devices and restarted.
- Chipset Drivers: Reinstalled the latest AMD Chipset and NVIDIA drivers from the ASUS support website.
Hardware / Firmware Resets:
- 60-Second EC Reset: Shut down, unplugged AC adapter, held the power button for 60 seconds.
- Physical Battery Disconnect: Opened the laptop, physically disconnected the internal battery connector from the motherboard, held the power button for 60 seconds to drain power, and reconnected.
- BIOS Update: Updated the laptop to the very latest BIOS version from the ASUS support site.
- BIOS Re-Flash (Attempted Fix): Based on another thread, I tried this specific fix: With the USB-C monitor plugged in, I entered the BIOS (EZ Flash) and re-flashed the same, latest BIOS version over itself.
None of these steps have solved the problem. The "USB 2.0 BILLBOARD" error persists with this VESA Certified active cable, and neither port will output video.
I also tried ctrl + shift + windows + b. I tried installing latest game ready driver on nvidia. I tried updating my monitor (no updates, latest version). I changed monitor settings (select output) from auto to usb hub. I tried charging my phone with the both type C outputs. Both works fine. I connected a type c heaphone, both give the sound.
I appreciate any suggestions, helps, constructive questions.
Thank you.
