GX501 Zephyrus headphone port not detecting headset mic

Does anyone know how to fix this? I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the latest Realtek HD drivers and uninstalling/updating sonic studio, but haven't had any changes.

EDIT: It appears that the webcam is using the headphone jack and thus overwriting whatever is plugged into it, as the headphone jack can sometimes work but if the webcam is ever activated it will immediately overwrite it.

It's like the Realtek High Definition Audio is being used by both the webcam and the audio jack, and the webcam is taking priority but there is no way to choose to recognise the audio jack.

I had given up and just surrendered to not having my microphone work, when on two and only two occasions in total has the microphone on my headset been detected instead of my Mic.

I have realised that the webcam seems to be sharing the same device recognition as the audio jack, and they are both competing for what is being active or not, but the webcam is almost always determined as the microphone instead of the headphone jack.

While this worked, activating the camera app on windows caused the webcam to take priority and for it to stop working again. Many months later my laptop crashed and restarted, and the microphone was working temporarily until it went into sleep mode, woke up, and it defaulted to the microphone again. I haven't been able to get it working again since.

This is what my sound panel looks like.

This is what it looks like when I plug in my headset (which all appears normal).

I originally thought this might be just a hardware fault, which it could still be, but having that it sometimes works I'm not too sure and I've never seen this issue with anything else before. Does anyone know what this could be now that I've added further information?

I am having the same issue although my head set works its just the mic from the webcam does too so the background noise this picks up is unreal. did you manage to get your issue sorted, is there a way to disable the webcam mic?

I have been looking in to a solution for weeks and have found nothing that has worked, the amount of background noise this picks up is ridiculous i am even thinking about using 3rd party audio software to use as a noise gate

Good day good people

This was the first place my google searches took me when I encountered the same problem, and I see no solution was ever found.

As it happens, for some reason, the Zephyrus's audio jack has it's pole arrangement different to the standard that even they end their own headsets with.
The adapter "for certain mobile brands" that they include works to facilitate the rearrangement & enables the use of both my HyperX & the included ROG headset for both input & output.

When you plug it in with the adapter, no realtek popup appears to ask what you've connected, it knows & treats your headset like a headset.

I also have had audio problems with both the speakers and headphone jack but these seem to now be solved. But my 4 pole headphone jack does not detect my mic. What adapter did you use? Where can I get one?

Still no solution? How is that possible?:mad:

As was mentioned, there are two different standards for 4-conductor headset jacks. You either need a different headset that uses the same standard or you need an adapter.

I am having the same problem every one on this thread seems to have had. Did anyone every find a fix?

When I bought my new ROG Zephyrus GM501GS (Win 10 Pro) laptop in Jan 2020, the mic of plug-in headsets would not work. It has a 3.5mm jack for headsets (speaker+mic). I ended updating drivers and toggling settings until finally the headset mic worked (I think it was using a generic realtek driver that did the trick). Unfortunately that caused the on-board speakers to have terrible sound quality; it sounded like an old-time radio where you could barely understand dialogue because of the scratchy noise. So I basically didn't want to deal with it and ended up just using earbud/mic combo for 9+ months.

However, recently I decided to try to fix the speakers again, because shouldn't an expensive laptop be expected to work? Anyway, I found an ASUS article https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1015070/ and followed the instructions and updated the BIOS from the product page to BIOS315 and then reinstalled the latest sound drivers (6.0.8746.1). That fixed the on-board speaker scratchy sound but broke the plug-in mic. I restarted and it seemed for like 1 day that the mic was working... but I'm not entirely sure it actually was, because now it's totally not working. If I turn on zoom and do the audio test and hold the plug-in mic next to my mouth and yell, I can hear like the first syllable of the word I in the playback. It's really bizarre...

Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this? I've basically tried all the sound/privacy setting changes in the top few youtubes/fix-it articles and nothing has worked...

So I finally got it to work, but I'm not absolutely sure what the actual solution was... I think it may have been enabling Sonic Studio 3?
