GA605WI performs worse than GA403UI

Title pretty much explains it all, owned a GA403UI laptop (Zephyrus G14 with 4070/32gb of ram and the AMD 8845S?) Ended up replacing it with a GA605WI (Zephyrus G16 with 4070/32gb of ram and AMD AI9 HX370)

With the upgrade in the processor as well as a higher wattage 4070, I should get similar if not better performance over all, but the laptop can't get over 10.2k in Timespy, I can't play Space Marine 2 higher than 49fps, and the laptop just runs like crap. Took the laptop to bestbuy and they could not figure out the issue, but after looking through the more detailed timespy report, it looks like i'm being GPU limited? my CPU is averaging about 11.9k in timespy but my Laptop 4070 is performing worse than a laptop 4060, is there anyway to reflash the vBIOs or might there be something else wrong? Also noticed a weird habit of when I set the laptop to default GPU overclock in armory crate the GPU wattage goes from 85w peak to 65w, so could someone at Asus have messed up and put the GPU from a G14 in my G16?

Laptop is on a raised platform with good airflow, i've tried every trouble shooting method I could google, and I'm getting nowhere, has anyone else had this issue?

Hello,

What is the current GPU score? (10.2K is Overall score?, 11.9K = CPU)

And did the older laptop get a higher CPU score?

G16: Current GPU score is 10k (roughly average for a 4060 notebook; but I have a 4070 which should be 12-13k) while the CPU is 11k (which is on the lower end, the HX 370 should be 12-13k) averaging out to a 10.2-10.6k depending on the run.

G14: got 12k on GPU (Also a 4070 but it was a lower wattage model as well, so how the heck is it performing better than the higher wattage 4070 in the G16?!) and 10k on the CPU averaging out to about 11.2-11.5k depending on the run.

Both laptops were plugged in with good airflow, but the G16 also isn't thermally limited, it's just a 4070 that performs worse than most 4060 laptops but I verified in HWinfo, it's supposedly a 4070, has the right number of cuda/tensor/memory bandwidth/ram etc. I can't figure out why it's running so poorly.

3dmark shows a chart with temps but it might be best to run hardware monitor whilst performing the tests to check your peak temperatures, if nothing is running excessively hot then it has to be a power limit issue.

This is a default setup ROG Strix G16, i9-14900HX + RTX 4060 for comparison

Got it, yeah so I ran the HWinfo hardware monitor and threw it into a log visualizer, but I simply can't find anything that stands out as a problem?

all the numbers in HWinfo line up with the expected specifications of the laptop. Power limits aren't being hit (weird that the GPU hit 120w with a 115w TGP, but nothing besides that), temp limits aren't being hit (CPU topped out at 82ish degrees c and the GPU topped out at 70C) the only thing that comes off as weird is the PCIe Link speed is dropping when not in use? I usually own desktops so I'm not sure if that's a laptop thing or not. But I can reupload with specific metrics, but here's the scores.

Anything else you recommend trying?

The only thing I would recommend is uninstalling Armoury Crate and running the latest version in the event this is not working correctly. (Turbo mode)

Turbo mode performs even worse, this run in 3DMark is the best the laptop has run, and to even get this score I had to max out all the settings in armory crate.

also attempted to delete Armory crate and run G-Helper and performance is unchanged.

Will attempt to contact Asus again to get it replaced. again.
