Asus Zephyrus G16 (GU605MY) (and probably other similar models), beware realtek 9738 sound driver

MYASUS, brought up a new sound driver the other day (V6.0.9738.1). After installing it, it broke the volume slider in windows. Meaning: Its either 100% volume, or Muted, nothing in between.

Had to revert back to 9715.

I downloaded 9738 from asus support website, thinking maybe re-installing it manually would fix. It didn't.

I chose to "uninstall device" Realtek Audio, and check the box to delete the driver.

After rebooting, it re-installed 9715, and all is well.

I checked back today, and 9738 has been removed from the asus driver page for my model, but sadly, its still showing available in My Asus.

BEWARE!!

Has anyone come up with a fix?

1. go to device manager->View->Drivers by Device

2. System devices-> Intel Smart Sound OED then find intcoed_oemlibpath.inf

check the inf version, if it is V.20.40.235.038, uninstall it. it should roll back to V.20.40.235.20, it works for me.

worked for me too, thanks.

G16 GU605MZ, I went through the same issue.

I'm not sure if the V6.0.9738.1 driver was installed by Windows Update or through MyASUS. But as soon as it was installed, my audio would stop working multiple times, and the volume bar wasn’t working.

Here's how I resolved it:

  1. Paused Windows Update.
  2. Downloaded RAPR (Driver Store Explorer):
  3. Downloaded drivers from the ASUS website:
    • Realtek Audio (V6.0.9715.1).
    • Cirrus (V25.26.50.500).
  4. Entered Windows Safe Mode.
  5. Opened RAPR (Driver Store Explorer) as Administrator.
  6. Deleted all the Drivers:
    • Cirrus Logic, Inc.
    • Realtek.
    • Dolby.
    • DTS.
    • Note 1: Selected "Force Deletion."
    • Note 2: I deleted all Realtek drivers, including those for my external network card and the SD card reader.
  7. Restarted the PC (to exit Safe Mode).
  8. Installed the downloaded drivers:
    • Realtek Audio (V6.0.9715.1).
    • Cirrus (V25.26.50.500).
  9. Restarted the PC.

After this, everything went back to normal. I re-enabled Windows Update to download drivers for the external network card and SD card reader.

Later, guess what popped up for download again?

But I haven’t downloaded it yet. I'm going to ignore this version for now.

New update by Realtek came out, had to install via windows updates and it fixed my problem!

The Realtek 9738 driver from the Asus web site completely hosed my laptop's audio. I had to do a System Restore to recover from it.

I updated to the Realtek 9738 driver (and several other Realtek updates) using Windows Update, and this time the update was fine. I'm assuming one of the other Realtek updates that were installed was necessary for the 9738 driver to work correctly.

Anyway - seems fine now and I'm on the latest version.

do you have the link to the realtek driver?

1. go to device manager->View->Drivers by Device

2. System devices-> Intel Smart Sound OED then find intcoed_oemlibpath.inf

check the inf version, if it is V.20.40.235.038, uninstall it. it should roll back to V.20.40.235.20, it works for me.
