ASUS ROG Laptop Overheating During Gaming Sessions

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased an ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2023) laptop, and while it performs great, I've noticed it gets quite hot during extended gaming sessions (e.g., playing Cyberpunk 2077 or CoD: Warzone). The CPU temperatures sometimes hit 95°C, and the fans get loud.

I've already tried:

  1. Adjust the fan curve in Armoury Crate to "Turbo" mode.
  2. Use a cooling pad underneath the laptop.
  3. Limiting the frame rate to 60 FPS in some games.

Despite these efforts, the temps remain high, and I'm concerned about long-term damage.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Are there any BIOS or Armoury Crate settings I should tweak? Would undervolting the CPU help, and if so, how do I go about it?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Hello,

Most of them will run hot by design but you can adjust the boost clocks and lower the voltages without to much of a noticeable impact. For the best possible outcome use Intel XTU software and adjust both the boost clock CPU Ratio and vcore.

What CPU does your laptop have?

I have documented my own experiences here with a 14900HX CPU and using Intel XTU so your numbers / adjustments will be different.

And maybe you will find this one useful as I have put together a few games / benchmarks with temperatues.

At the time of my testing I was only using XTU with armourycreate removed, with XTU + Turbo fan profiles you will should be able to achieve better temps if everything is working correctly. In my opinion keeping the CPU around a peak temp of no more than 90 Deg C is a reasonable goal.

Intel XTU can only run if VT-X is diabled (BIOS option), you'll see a cannot start message if it's enabled when you try.
