2023 G16 - Try to run Dual Channel or Max Out Ram?

Hi all!

I have a ROG Zephyrus G16 GU603VI 2023 model.  I want to upgrade the RAM, but the last time I put ram into a PC was over 20 years ago...Yeah...Im lost haha.

I mainly use this for video editing and general computing, but I lean on it a bit when I edit and process.  I also do some modeling and CAD work occasionally.

Im trying to determine if I should add 16 gb ram, so it will run in dual channel mode (will it do that?) or if I should just get 32 gb and max the laptop out at 48 gb.

Does anyone have any input on this?  And can someone point me to ram that is compatible for whichever path I should take?  Like... a link haha.  When I search there are SO many choices I get turned around.

Thanks in advance!

Justin

This is a secondary internal drive.  I prefer to keep my raw files on a separate drive than my OS and programs, so as long as I can work off that drive, Im ok with that as well.  So Ill just need to transfer from camera/phone to hard drive which is nice and quick on this.

I was eying up the crucial drives...thanks for the read/write speed goal.  Ill order that with the ram tonight!

Again I appreciate the feefback!

Np, hopefully this will all go smooth without issues.

BIOS updated, RAM installed, seems to be working!  Im not sure how to tell if its in dual channel or not, but Ill look into that. (EDIT: I guess CPUZ information confirms dual channel - 2 x 64 in the channel section)

That was really painless once I figured out which stick to go with.

Thanks again!

Hello there, would you link me to the ram and SSD you got? I have the same model and want to do the exact same thing. I'd like to prioritize dual channel (32gb) over more ram (48gb). Thank you.

Sure!  I got both from Amazon.  Price was same as Crucial and I didnt have to leave the house haha.

Ram:

SSD:

Hope that helps!

Hello what tools did u use and can u link me the tools I need also did you notice a performance improvement like speed and responsiveness after doing it? I have the same exact model as u from 2023 with an i7 and 4070 gu603vi and I'm thinking about upgrading as well but don't wanna mess up and get the wrong stuff lol. Thanks much appreciated if u could answer.

It's extremely easy, just watch the video on YouTube. You'll need a small screwdriver and a plastic trim tool, guitar pick or something else like that. Probably a 10 minute job.

Hey SilverRanger777... Yes I noticed a pretty decent performance jump, however I dont think Im actually using it all haha.  I noticed it more when I was jumping between heavy apps like editing and CAD.  Seems smoother.  The extra hard drive is wonderful.  Super big files transfer lightning quick, and I run some games off the extra drive too without issue.  I like keeping my OS drive as free as possible.

Tools are covered below but you need nothing special.  Small screw driver and something soft to pry with is all you need.

Also the ram you bought and linked from Amazon is it x8 and dual ranked?

Im not sure what you mean by that... Its 16 gb and matches the specs of the original ram.  Runs in dual channel just fine.
