Win7 TouchPad not working GL552 VW

Hi all,

I am in great need of making my touch-pad to work. I installed win7 my GL552VW because the software I need for work won't run in Win10 nor Win8. I couldn't find the driver for my touch pad. None of the smart gesture driver works on my machine in win7.

These are what I've tried:
1) use the driver for win10 for this particular model ---> error: part of the installation didn't end as expected.
2) use the driver for win8.1 for GL552JW ----> error: part of the installation didn't end as expected.
3) use the driver for win7 for some other model ---> error: smart gesture doesn't support your device.

BTW, the ATK driver works fine on my computer.

Now I suspected that these may be caused by my CPU (i7-6700 with skylate). I've been through tones of articles online about getting the touch pad to work. But all of them are using the models with CPUs older than i7-6700.

Is there anyone out there who is able to get the touch-pad working for WIN7? If any ASUS staff sees this, please talk to the tech department and help us fix the problem.

asus smart gesture found your trackpad with the synaptics original driver.

FYI i also took a look at my ATK package folder v1.0.0041and the Win7/64 is also present.

what is your ATK version ?

is your device manager still say :"hid mouse" ?

My ATK version is 1.0.0041 as yours. And yes, the device manager still says "hid mouse".

I finally found a version of smart gesture I can install without error. But it didn't help at all. The touch pad still has no response.

as i'm not in front of your laptop , i don't understand what's wrong, Asus Smart Gesture 4.09 and ATK 1.0.0041 work fine with Win 7.

in your device manager have you got any unknown device ?
do you have an USB mouse connect ?

the only thing that come in my mind is a wrong device detection.

show me a screenshot with the trackpad device in the device manager.

you can also try to do a manual update in the device manager and pointing the Asus smart gesture folder included sub-folders.

hope my explain in English is clear

I don't see any touch pad device showing up on my device manager and I have a wireless mouse connected to the laptop.

I attached the screenshots here. The unknown device in my device manager has the hardware ID as MSFT0101 so it is irrelevant.

Note: 1) "Show hidden device" has been selected in device manager.
2) In Bios, "Internal Touchpad Device" has been selected as enable.

Now I start to doubt if it is the hardware problem. But I got this brand new computer less than a week ago and the touch pad absolutely worked when the computer was with the pre-installed Win10.

for the "unknown device" try to install Intel MEI driver.

if it still appear go into the bios and disable Intel Platform Trust Technology device .

and look if the touchpad device isn't set to disable ^^
may be it's as simple as that.

I have the exact same missing driver in my GL552VW with Windows 7 installed. Although the Intel MEI driver package got rid of the majority of unknown devices, this one still persists. I see no such option in my BIOS to disable "Intel Platform Trust Technology Device". Are you sure it is an option on this model?

Figured this one out (Missing driver in Device Manager). It is the Windows Trusted Platform Module Driver that enabled BitlLocker encryption for Windows 7 Pro.

Need Hotfix KB2920188.

OK guys and girls, I know you are already going through all the software and stuff for the non-working trackpad. But Steph, have you already tried the simple Fn+F9 Key to activate/deactivate the trackpad?

Of course, I tried.

hi, just to talk about the touchpad, it seems that it is connected through I2C I/O and Win7 isn't compatible with this interface.
but some drivers exists you can find one in the asus smart gesture folder Under win7/asusTPDrv sub-folder.
there is also a generic Intel driver here:

I2C Intel

i don't have any I2C device so i can't test these drivers and be sure to make this Interface working fine on Win7.
hope this will help.
