I saw this thread and for the past week I've been having Wifi connectivity issues on my G75VW since upgrading to WIndows 8.
I finally now have Wifi but only after:
1) Completely uninstalled all of the ASUS drivers/utilities etc. Everything and anything with an ASUS name on it gone.
2) Deleted all ASUS directories from Program Files (x86) and Program Files
3) Did a cleanmgr including System files
Rebooted
Then I re-installed the ASUS drivers, one by one.
I started with the ATK Driver package
Then the Wireless Radio Control, rebooted again
At this point I have Wifi back.
I'm now going through, getting the other software installed.
My biggest frustration here is that I've spent days on this emailing ASUS support, working with Microsoft and had to stumble upon this myself. My suspicion is that something from Windows 7 was left hanging around and
was causing a conflict when the new installers were trying to update the system. I wish ASUS would fix their installation packages so you can at least get some details on what's going on. This )(@*#)! PNPINST64 utility that they use is junk. If it gets an error you just get a simple "Error" dialog with no logging or information. Likewise
the driver installation logs say success, always! A work-around for this is to use DPINST (microsoft) or pnputil to
install an ASUS driver that leverages PNPINST64. I had to use it to track this problem down.
Anyway, I hope this helps anybody else who's having this issue.
Also there's a new Atheros WLAN driver available, newer than what ASUS has 10.0.0.26 you can find them here:
