hey guys,

i was wondering what that L in the model name means? or what is the difference between G and GL.
i bought GL552VW, which was the model name in the shop, but on back of the notebook and on the box there is just G552VW, without the L. also when i registered my ntb on asus.com with SN, it says it is GL552VW. quite confusing.

thx for reply

GL are stripped down cheap versions. Which did you purchase If you purchased a G552VW and Received a GL552VW you got ripped, if you paid for a GL552VW you got what you paid for.
G752VY-DH72 Win 10 Pro
512 GB M.2 Samsung 960 Pro
1 TB Samsung 850 pro 2.5 format
980m GTX 4 GB
32GB DDR 4 Standard RAM

Z97 PRO WiFi I7 4790K
Windows 10 Pro
Z97 -A
Windows 10 Pro

exactly in what they are stripped down?

i bought GL552VW-DM344T, but on the label on backside of the ntb there is G552VW as model. also on the box there is G552VW. in the box there where bag, headphones and optical mouse.

i wrote it little bit wrong - i bought G552V series ntb. on the box and on the label on the back of the ntb is G552V series, model G552VW-DM344T, but in CPU-Z there is under Mainboard tab GL552VW.
also on the shop i bought it is G552VW-DM344T, so it should be, i hope, not the stripped down cheaper version. it cost 35k Czech crowns, which is +/- $1470.
insides are i7-6700/16GB RAM/GTX960M 4GB, 256SDD+1TB HDD.

The main difference is that your G552 is actually a GL552, because the G552 DOES NOT EXIST. If you don't believe me, check the official Asus site.

As for the "stripped down" part, there is no need to worry about that, because the difference in the G vs GL in the 17" laptops is pretty obvious and starts with the dual coolers and the huge vents in the back, and the available graphics cards (965 and 980 in the G, and only the 960 in the new G's and GL's), and as for the 15" G's/GL's, I presume that the main difference, if and when the G552 comes out, will probably be the GTX965 or 980 instead of the 960, and a 15-20% higher price tag.

So, you did not buy the G552 because it does not exist, you bought the top model GL, and payed a normal price for it. It is not stripped down, not cheap, and not bad at all 😉 Why they advertise it as a G instead of a GL on your market, that is a question I cant answer

Actually, if you are in Europe,
GL552 : plastic lid version
G552 : aluminium lid version, a little bit thinner and lighter.

That's the only difference
G552vw metal finish
Gl552 plastic
In the US there's only the gl version which comes in 2variants plastic and metal finish, metallic being the newer model, since the plastic version wasn't durable enough, if u're planning to get one, go for the metallic version
