The G75VW USB 3.0 is Junk. Can't see purchasing the the G75VX or G75JX .

I tested my ARECA ARC-5040 box on the G75VW and the FIT-PC mini computer.

It's clear any type of Data push on the G75VW USB 3.0 bus and it locks up hard. (With the supplied and newest drivers). (Maybe there some hidden firmware fix for the Intel XHCI Controller). The owners have been hosed.

Mini Computer takes it fine. I have a few other issues with the TI USB 3.0 chip on the mini computer. But not data lockups. I see the fault is with ASUS and most likely their firmware.

I paid a lot of good money for this laptop. So far: Bad sound chip, dumb sub wolfer, they cripple thunderbolt, a mouse pad defect, and not working USB 3.0. And a lack of Win7 UASP. I just want to cry here.

The only way I see ASUS selling me the next G75xxxxx is to give an honest to god SAS and two External MINI SAS ports. Its the only way the owners are ever going to see high speed hard drive access in an external raid box.

Can't justify directing any more of the spending with ASUS. They're just not fixing the issues here. Two words Quality Control.

I tell you what. I'll retract this verdict for two other tests. Lets try win 8's new usb 3.0 stack and linux and see if it intel or asus issue.

I haven't had any issues with the USB 3.0 usage and performance.

OP are you using Windows 7 or Windows 8?

I've noticed that USB 3 speeds are slow for me, but it's still faster than 2

Is there really a G75JX? Haven't heard or read anything about it yet.
As far as I know that usb 3.0 is working fine even with win 7 or win 8 with updated drivers.
I also have no issues with usb 3.0 and I am running win 8.

I don't know why you'are so dissatisfied with the USB3.0 performance. I have the 75vw and am doing my backups with a USB3/0 1TB external drive. On this using a complete backup takes a mere 8 minutes where on my desktop it takes a full 43 minutes. I'm on Windows 8 on both machines as well. I have no problem with the data speed on the Asus that's for sure. Moves right along.

The G75VX is a short run with the nVidia 670MX. The JX will have the 700. I was waiting till march to upgrade my core.

Yes i've tried Intel USB 3.0 Driver v1.0.7.248 too. And no. It totally unstable. Any data push on the USB 3.0 and it just stalls out and locks up the usb 3.0.

Maybe I should RMA it.

Yeah RMA it. I think you have some individual hardware problem. I use the USB 3.0 with an external Lexar USB 3.0 reader to pull Nikon D800 files in from 32GB 1000x cards and am still amazed at how fast it is. I can read several gigs of data off a compact flash card in just a few seconds. The USB 3.0 external reader is so much faster, that I even bother with getting it out and plugging it in even when using SD cards because it's so much faster than even the built in SD card reader.
