Modern GPUs are basically designed to go faster until cooling is the limiting factor and then they throttle back. The GPU will protect itself from overheating so you do not need to worry about that. Where you might have a concern is if it is constantly throttling down to a low clock speed and staying there. This would manifest as unusually poor performance in games. In that situation there could be something wrong with the cooling system.
