Rog stryx G16 problems

Hello,

I'm currently using a g16 I've had it for 1 year and 6 months and the more i use it the more problems appear.

Problem N°1: Random alt tabs when playing

When i play, the game will randomly lose focus (maybe once every couple hours) for a split second and go back to the game like nothing happened, it messed with my aim and even auto pause some games like binding of Isaac.

Problem N°2: Random keys not registering

WASD Keys will often not register especially A and D, I have to release and press the same keys again or press any other keys for it to work again. Example : when i play CS2 and i want to jiggle peak, i will press D to go right and press A to go left but be stuck in place and getting killed because the key did not register, which leads to a lot a hesitation when playing and me wanting to put my fist through the screen. I've seen on forums that this could be from one of the keyboard drivers that is stuck on a certain version but couldn't find it.

Problem N°3: Random shutdowns

This one is pretty recent it started happening 2 weeks ago when playing Expedition 33. My laptop will instantly shutdown after playing for couple hours depending on the game and the graphic settings I'm applying. Very annoying as it Corrupted my Expedition 33 save file once. I've seen that it could be from overheating, i will get it cleaned and change thermal paste soon.

Very disappointed in this laptop even the coat of paint on the left of the touchpad started melting just by resting my hand on it 😥

my next laptop will definitely not be from asus

Hello,

Wear and tear is common and if you have been really using the laptop like playing non stop everyday for a long time it's going to fail in some aspect, sounds like you have been gaming well on this laptop until the issues? Don't be put off just yet, see how many hours usage you have on it then make up your mind if it did well or not.

As to your problems.

N1 - Could be a few things even Windows itself. Is it an alt-tab or the display switching, like when it goes from iGPU to nvidia GPU?

To test, in the BIOS set the preferred display to dGPU and see what happens. This will make the nvidia card the default display at all from the moment it boots, so if it is an issue with the display switching this will help.

N2 - Maybe the keyboard is failing and needs replacing or the controller chip is failing, there is no easy option other than to replace the keyboard or stop using it and go for a USB one.

N3 - Make sure the thermal paste change is done correctly, liquid metal and thermal putty for the GPU memory chips and CPU/GPU VRM mosfets / coils. And heatsink / fans cleaned carefully, don't let anyone use an air duster spray on the fans, some people will just spray it and let the fan blades spin without realising the compressed air made their fan spin faster than it was meant to spin which will kill the fan bearings / fan.

A lot of people with gaming laptops also use USB keyboard / mouse for better comfort and control so for your next laptop if you want to keep it looking good for longer it might be worth considering.

Would be good to know if you got things fixed so post back with the results (unless the fist made contact with the screen)

Hello and good luck. I have found a strange problem for a few days. The m, b, z, x, /, . , <, and > AND , buttons and the right shift on my laptop keyboard do not work on their own!! Either we have to press them several times firmly or we have to press the m button with the left shift for it to type. Most of the time, it doesn't work on its own!!! Or I have to press the said buttons immediately after pressing another button for it to work! My keyboard is dust-free and I have taken very good care of it! Please help me, I really can't believe it. My buttons have a problem. Please help me, support officials and friends.

Hello,

So after a month, for the Problem n1 disabling the IGPU seems to have worked, i haven't seen it do the weird alt tab since then.

For the Problem n2 i gave up on it and bought a razer huntsman v3 pro mini

And the problem n3 it kinda stopped crashing recently but i still got it cleaned and replaced the thermal paste by a pro just to be sure.

Hello,

Usually some rows on the keyboard share some of the same wiring so if this is a problem you might find certain keys don't work or the keyboard connector cable is loose. You will need to get this checked and if the keyboard is to be replaced it is a fair amount of work depending on the model you have.

What laptop is it / year?
