ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2023) RAM upgrade to 5600 DDR5

I just bought 64Gb Kingston Fury Impact DDR5 5600 CL40 (2×32Gb) model KF556S40IBK2-64 https://www.kingston.com/en/memory/search?partid=KF556S40IBK2-64.
I mounted it to my strix scar 18 and... it does not turn on, does not even enter bios. Only the keyboards lights up... I suspected that the ram might not work at 5600, but I thought it would just work at 4800 and I would have a 64Gb 4800. My bios updated to last v 305.
Now I put back my 32Gb... And the new ram just put it on the shelf... Waste of money.
It is great laptop, and i9 13980hx supports 5600 RAM. It is sad that it not work with scar 18.
We can only hope that Asus will someday add support for 5600 ram in future bios updates.
Any suggestions, why this RAM do not work even on 4800 with scar 18? I think it should work...

I bought my scar 18 with 32 gigs of ram and out of the box upgraded it to 64 gigs 4800 and it took a really long time to start. At first i thought there was a problem with the new ram, but giving a good 5 minutes to do it's thing it started, so i thing this was your problem, in theory your 5600 ram should work in 4800 speed.

"Memory training occurs on power up, and it is the process whereby the system initialises all the memory installed in your system, does a few rapid tests, organises it all into a pool, and then makes it available for use."

It can take several minutes.

Hi there,

please can you tell me if you've been able to make your ram upgrade work? I will buy soon the laptop and I would do the same upgrade.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a nice day!

I bought the kit linked in the original post. Works fine running at 4800 mhz.

I did the swap on bios 307 and still running fine on 308.

I suggest upgrading the bios before doing the swap. Some people had problems with older bios. 🙂

Do you think there will be an improvement in the bios about this issue?

I read it somewhere on reddit, that they are planning to enable 5600 in a future update.
I wanted to try out the 5600 kit to future proof my setup in case we get it. 🙂

There is almost no difference in price (a couple percent in Denmark).
To be fair they always advertised the laptop with 4800 memory and never said anywhere that it will support 5600 officially at least.

According to Kingston.com datasheet, this 64Gb Kingston Fury Impact DDR5 5600 CL40 (2×32Gb) model KF556S40IBK2-64, these RAMs run at  latency timing of 40-40-40. I suppose this timing is for 5600 rate. It would be of help if you write what is the timing at 4800 rate????? I assume that this RAM kit works at 4800 on Scar 18. I would expect better timing at 4800 than at 5600. I can buy this RAM kit or 32GB rip jaws which have the timing of 36-36-36. Thanks.

The latency timing is 36-35-35 at 4800

would be great to see ram running at 5600 like in Lenovo 7i gen8
