ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2025) G635 - G635LX-RW093 upgrade

Hello! I bought an ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2025) G635 (G635LX-RW093) laptop.
I want to upgrade it!

  1. I want to install 2 SSD drives. What is the maximum capacity for one drive? What is the total capacity I can install? 2 drives of 2 TB each, or 2 drives of 4 TB each?

  2. Are models with a heatsink on the chips (with Heatsink) compatible?

  3. I'm considering:

    • Samsung 990 PRO, PCIe 4.0 (7,450 MB/s read, 6,900 MB/s write)

    • WD Black SN7100, PCIe 4.0 (7,250 MB/s read, 6,900 MB/s write)
      What would you recommend?

  4. RAM, 64GB (2x32GB) 6400MHz – will 64GB run at 6400MHz? Or will it be reduced to 5200MHz, making it pointless?
Will 64GB run at 5600MHz if I install 64GB RAM with a 5600MHz frequency, or will it also be reduced to 5200MHz due to the 64GB capacity?

  5. I'm considering:

    • Kingston DDR5 32GB 6400MHz KVR64V52BD8-32 Valueram

    • Crucial DDR5-6400 (CT32G64C52CS5)
      What would you recommend?

Hi there, I think, as it has 2 × M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 NVMe slots, which should support 4 TB each, you can go for the 8 TB for storage. Your SSD consideration choices are good.

SSDs with slim heatsinks can fit if they’re low‑profile.

Since ASUS already provides thermal management, it’s best to use bare SSDs or slim models

For RAM, if you go for th 64 GB installed, you will run at 5200 MHz whatever modules are rated for 5600 or 6400 MHz. But if you stay on 32GB, you'll use the 6400 MHz.

Either you choose capacity or speed... can’t have both at the same time. And go for the Crucial DDR5-6400 (CT32G64C52CS5)

SSD PCI-E 5.0:
Kingston Fury Renegade G5, PCI-E 5.0 (SFYR2S/2T0) (14,700 MB/s read, 14,000 MB/s write)
WD Black SN8100 Gen5, PCI-E 5.0 (14900 MB/s read, 14000 MB/s write)
Can it be installed and will it run at its full speed of 14,000 MB/s?
Will it get hot and require cooling heatsinks?

SODIMM 2x16GB (32Gb) 6400 MHz - will it run at 6400 MHz frequency, and does the upgrade make sense?
if i stay on 32GB, i use the 6400 MHz? - 100%???

I just received real evidence!
ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2025) G835LX laptop, latest BIOS.

The GEN 5 PCI-E 5.0 SSD in the first slot is faster! PCI-E 4.0 in the second slot.
The performance gain isn't huge in synthetic tests, but it's there, and so is the heat, which is also higher; it has a heat sink.

SSD1: XPG MARS 9800 BLADE, 2TB, (R: 10035 MB/s - W: 7610 MB/s), equipped with a heat sink.
SSD2: WD PC SN8000S SDEQNRG-2T00-1002, 2TB, (R: 6806 MB/s - W: 6312 MB/s),

Crucial DDR5-6400 CSODIMM, 2x32 GB, (CT32G64C52CS5)
Works without issues, after the BIOS update, 64 GB running at 6400MHz!!!_D1_ED_E8_EC_EE_EA+_FD_EA_F0_E0_ED_E0+2025-11-29+144352.png_D1_ED_E8_EC_EE_EA+_FD_EA_F0_E0_ED_E0+2025-11-29+144721.png7269077785.webpHEBh1Ifso2dL6n9Wpz2CNaVFXS1GTLnl9S32DxGSYY6e.pngHEBh3MZdP02CP1niji2Cz1c0vWdFDz0r5eFj9VMz0nFlRz0.pngHEBh6jHw9z1hgcXX4iTHYrKz0SP87vluOTUcRIhOemFhb.jpg
