ROG Strix G713PU - the CPU fan completely shuts off randomly and won't turn back on

Hello,

I've had my ROG Strix G713PU for about a year now without any issues, but recently, I’ve been experiencing fan problems. This started about two weeks ago and happens roughly 50% of the time.

Under normal workloads, like light gaming or digital painting, both the CPU and GPU fans typically run at 2300 RPM and 2500 RPM respectively, which is normal. However, after about 10 to 20 minutes of use (with no change in workload), I notice that the CPU fan completely shuts off, dropping to 0 RPM. Meanwhile, the GPU fan still runs at 2700 RPM, but it sounds much louder than it should—almost like a blow dryer.

This loud fan noise persists for about 30 to 40 minutes, after which the CPU fan turns back on, the noise levels return to normal, and everything seems to balance out.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far to resolve the issue: I’ve reinstalled Armoury Crate, run the Asus diagnostic tool (which shows no problems when both fans are running), and received an error message when only the GPU fan runs, indicating a possible fan issue. I’ve also reset the BIOS defaults during startup and tried using GHelper to manage the fans, but no luck.

Any suggestions before I consider requesting an RMA?

Thank you for reading, I'm looking for any kind of fix to this.

Maybe if you tried everything i think its a hardware problem i remember before people have a problem whit the fan's but don't remember what whas the cause

Another thing that you can try to reinstall the bios just downloade the same version and reinstall it if this dont fix the problem send it to the repair center

for reference, this is what I'm seeing in armoury crate. it goes like this for 20 minutes. it says around 2500 RPM for the GPU but it sounds MUCH louder than that, more like 7000 RPM in actuality. it sounds like a blow dryer going off on the right side of my laptop.

Thank you for your response, I tried the BIOS reset described in the instructions but it didn't fix the issue. I noticed that when only the GPU fan is on and very loud; if I unplug the AC charger it kicks into "silent mode" (both fans then read at 0 RPM) and then when I plug it back it in, automatically switches to "windows mode" At this point both fans spin again for about 30 minutes and then the CPU fan stops spinning again and the GPU fan gets really loud.

There's no grinding or crunchy sounds from the fans.

Could this be a motherboard circuit issue, hardware, or a software issue?

Thanks again for taking your time.
