ROG Scar 16-17-18 gaming laptops and Intel 13th and 14th gen stability issue

So... what about this Intel scandal recently emerged?

Intel has finally tracked down the problem making 13th- and 14th-gen CPUs crash | Ars Technica

If you're using a 13th- or 14th-generation CPU and you're not noticing any problems, the microcode update should prevent your processor from degrading. But if you're already noticing stability problems, Tom's Hardware reports that "the bug causes irreversible degradation of the impacted processors" and that the fix will not be able to reverse the damage that has already happened.

Intel says that an analysis of defective processors "confirms that the elevated operating voltage is stemming from a microcode algorithm resulting in incorrect voltage requests to the processor." In other words, the CPU is receiving too much power, which is degrading stability over time.

Are ASUS+Intel planning BIOS updates to mitigate the issue?

I don't think I'm speculation or overthinking or overarching besides my asus that I paid for runs like that always or hotter

Let's wait and see this Intel microcode update. I guess ASUS will provide a BIOS update in case also for the laptops.

Then we'll be able to test with tools like y-cruncher if we can reproduce the issue on our mobile CPUs.

Not reading about mobile CPUs involvement ATM (?) from Intel can be seen as an encouraging signal.

Uh, there's a BIOS update for G834JY:

but I doubt it has something to do with this...

I wish they'd write that it's changed. They are all like my git reports. Nonsense like "CODE" or "Update" or "GO".

yes, i bought the first batch of ASUS SCAR 18 G834JY with i9-13980HX and after a year of use i started seeing errors with the processor, but the warranty has already expired (

so i also confirm

That’s unfortunate that it was outside of warranty. Did you RMA it? If so can you PM me the RMA number and case details. There are obviously countless reasons a system may experience instability after all.

13900KS / 8000 CAS36 / ROG APEX Z790 / ROG TUF RTX 4090

my warranty expired when i discovered the cpu degradation.
i found a temporary solution for now which is quite stable - i disabled the degraded core in software

when this doesn't help either, i'll have to send it to ASUS and have it repaired at my own expense
