ROG GL553VE going into sleep mode, when my Iwatch magnetic wrist band touches it

HI,

My ROG GL553VE is going into sleep mode, when my Apple Iwatch magnetic wrist band touches the lower left corner of the laptop. I've disabled all "sleep" options and now it's just the screen going dark. It's the magnet in the wrist band and something inside the lower left part of the laptop that don't get along...

It's very annoying since I like my new laptop and also I like wearing the watch, but I can't have both in the same time... 😞

I would appreciate any advice on how to solve this problem.

That is the lid sensor. There is a magnet on the top so it knows to turn off the screen/backlight when the lid is closed. I'm not sure this is something you can disable as there wouldn't be any reason for the backlight to be on and drawing power when the lid is closed.

Thanks for your response. What you said makes perfect sense, but in our times when a lot of people wear smartwatches with magnetic wrist bands, this looks to me as a design glitch. That sensor should have been placed in the middle...

Is there a way to disable the sensor?

I finally spoke to the technical department from ASUS. There is indeed a sensor meant to detect magnetic fields (among others) called Hall Sensor, in the lower left corner of the laptop. And there is no way to deactivate it.

Can you guys suggest me a different ROG laptop, with similar or better characteristics, that doesn't have the Hall Sensor on the lower left corner?

I don't know where all of the sensors are on different models but every laptop has one except for older ones with a physical latch. It's basically an industry standard.
