Ram upgrade-Asus SCAR 18 2024 -G834JYR -bios 317

Hi folks,

Looking to swap out my memory to 64GB, Asus sadly will not recommend anything. I have heard instances where 64gb kits do not run at the full 5600 mhz.

Has anyone upgraded the scar 18 -2024 to 64gb ( or higher) keeping the full speeds of 5600mhz.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Hello,

I can confirm that you can perfectly do it. I recently got the G834JYR (Scar 18 2024), currently with Kingston Fury Impact DDR5 64Gb kit (2x32), running at 5600mt/s (confirmed).

If you're interested, you can also upgrade your SSDs up to 4Tb each as far as I know (Asus says something like 4tb in total but I currently have 6tb), I have a Samsung 990 pro 2tb for the main OS drive, plus a Samsung 990 Pro 4Tb for storage. My model arrived with Raid 0, but you can easily swap different new SSD drives and in my case it automatically disabled the Raid, just reinstall windows through BIOS using Asus Cloud Recovery (I recommend using an Ethernet cable directly to your router), and it lets everything as it was brand new out of the box but with your new SSD drives, it was quite straight forward.

Cheers.

Yes, absolutely.  I just upgraded my 2024 ROG STRIX SCAR 18 to 96GB with a Crucial Kit and it runs at 5600!  BOOYAH!

Absolutely amazing laptop,

Thank you very much, the first thing i did was remove raid 0, install two bigger nvme drives and do a cloud restore, worked really well and didn't take long. Do you have the code for the memory as i will purchase the exact same kit?

Thank you for taking the time to reply also 😉

Indeed, so far I'm very please with it. 🙂

You're welcome, this is the RAM kit I got:

Kingston KF556S40IBK2-64 - https://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KF556S40IBK2-64.pdf

By the way, are you undervolting/overclocking it? So far I'm doing -80Mv of undervolting through BIOS (the maximum allowed, it's working good), I want to use Intel XTU but it gives me warnings sometimes that both Armoury Crate and XTU are applying their own values. Do you know how should I set Armoury Crate in order to use Intel XTU? (I always have Armoury Crate in manual mode with my custom fan profiles).

Cheers.

No problem at all with Armoury crate but i don't use XTU. go into bios and start -80, install throttle stop 9.6 and make it self start on windows. Plenty of vids on google on what to adjust if your not sure, im running -100 after a new liquid metal install on cpu and gpu, after an hours gaming  cpu is at 75 c and the gpu is around 73 gpu, this was mainly due to mine running at 103 for the cpu due to poor thermals

Thanks for the advice, I had my first experience with ThrottleStop this year on my previous Scar 17 and I must say, it seems like a light, stable and effective app. So following your advice, I'm running -80mv from BIOS plus -100mv on ThrottleStop in the CPU Core, CPU P cache and CPU E Cache. Also, making my CPU PL1 and PL2 power limits to match Armoury Crate in manual mode, so there shouldn't be any conflict. So far it's been pretty stable and effective, so thanks for that.

About the repasting, I recently got Conductonaut Extreme for CPU+GPU and Kryonaut Extreme for VRAM and VRM chips. I'm waiting for some free time and tranquility to do so, but mine was not reaching such high temperatures (around 94-95ºC max, but I still want to lower that).

As far as I know, poor thermals even with liquid metal have been a relative common thing in the industry due to the robotized process applying liquid metal only on top of the CPU and GPU Die and not in the heatsink, so it doesn't break the surface tension in the heatsink properly, as if one also applies it directly on it. Do you know anything about it? That's just what I have seen on Reddit and YouTube.

Cheers.

I am no expert with Throttle stop, i again just watched the vid, If you are going to re-paste, a google vid is around for the exact laptop. I bit of advice though before you remove the heatsink make you you tape the fans to the hestsink so they don't move when you put them back. Trust me -trying to put the heatsink on exactly flat while balancing two fans is no fun 😉

I can imagine... 😅

I have some experience with liquid metal already with previous laptops, but that advice is good since I saw on a Youtube video the "fans situation" with the scar 18 when pulling out the heatsink.

Thanks again and good luck with yours, enjoy it!

There was an annoying application for MyAsus that kept popping up and would not allow me to input proper credentials into it.  I ended up deleting this app.  Is this the app that gives you cloud access?  I'm trying to figure out how your got cloud access? I've only been to the bios a couple times. Once on the mandatory firmware upgrade and a second time to check it out so I did not look around for the cloud backup.  Seems like a nice thing to have especially if I do the crucial kit.  Is anyone running heat sinks on any of their storage drives?

Into the bios and cloud recovery. It does everything else for you after of course a few warning messages. I thought about using heat sinks on my upgraded nvme sticks but haven't done anything yet.
