Post your horror stories here regarding your Asus Laptops. (issues, repairs, etc)

Hello,
I am fairly new to the ROG forums. I recently purchased an Asus G55vw and found my way to this great community. Now let me say that my Asus G55 has been great so far and I have not had a single issue with it. I have gathered that many others have not been so fortunate. I see horror stories on here all the time about issues people are having with new laptops, repairs, etc. After reading through a lot of these posts it is making me question my purchase. One thing I have gathered so far, is that if something does go wrong with your laptop from Asus, you are better off fixing it/paying to have it fixed yourself rather than sending it in to Asus. I made this thread to hear peoples stories, and how they were resolved. This could be great for when others run in to the same issues themselves. One trend that I have noticed is that Asus G75's seem to have more problems than G55's. I wonder why this is? My theory on this is maybe there is more of a demand for the 17" model over the 15" model. So if there is way more G75's produced than G55's, then that just makes for more to have issues.

I would like others opinions on their Asus G series laptops and how they have been for them.

Thank you all for your time!

Horror ??? hahhahaa .. easy Vicodin .. don't get out the wooden stake just yet.

Most issues are quickly corrected in kind with the help of fellow members. When this
is not possible and a RMA is required Asus now has cl-'s' (Customer Loyalty Specialists) in
place to help walk the unfortunate through it.
A simple PM (Private Messege) usually sets the joy in motion.

As you point out just in the sheer volume of units a handful or even 100 looks enormous.
So. As you say. Your G55 has not had a single issue .. Joining the 10's of Thousands that did not.

For everything else, It may bare saying again. Welcome to ROG.c.

This is what's known as sampling bias. The thousands and thousands of people without problems don't bother posting on the internet. The number of people with issues you're reading are a tiny fraction of total sales so while their struggles should not be diminished on a personal level, it means next to nothing in the grand scheme of things. In short, it isn't reason to worry.

I totally see your point. I guess I never thought of it that way. This forum for example, people post when they have an issue, especially when they want help with that said issue. Not many people are going to make a post about how great is has been.

Absolutely.

It's the same thing with Product Ad Statistics, it's not percentaged out of worldwide population, they just mean out of the 100 or a 1000 or more people that they surveyed with using of a given product. Now lets say 40% of them were told that they may develop life altering symptoms from using it. It's that kind of headliners on the News that make people think it's a much bigger problem because all they saw was "40%" and they included themselves as part of the percentage because he/she also uses this kind of product. Then that 'problem' eventually escalates into a global awareness FOR the actual product. The cycle just keeps repeating.

So the question,

The remaining percentage that did not receive or hear any bad news about it, think they are going to be concerned about the product?

Reality is that negative results creates MORE awareness to resolve, whereas positive results simply gain peace of mind.. even if it's not your own.

What xeromist and a few others said. Folks post when they have problems, not when everything is going great. I've had my G75 since mid November and not a single problem. I added 8G more ram and a 2nd hard drive without a single issue. I really didn't need to do that, I just have this thing about computers with empty drive bays and ram slots. 🙂

I've never had any hardware problems with my laptop, and LINUX runs great! 🙂 @srmojuze, I have always had a beef against Apple, especially with their attitude of trying to patent things that clearly weren't theirs (rectangles with rounded corners). That's why I run LINUX (Windows when I have to) and Android.
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

We now have 178 people whose systems will not break! Yippee! 🙂

I've got a G74SX-A1. It's a nice laptop, but I don't really need it or have time for it anymore. So I'm trying to sell it for less than 40% of what I paid for it.

Gee this thread will end well, lol.

Like the others that above me have said...

We resell ASUS laptops and I haven't had any trouble with support since the CL guys popped up.
