Hello ASUS Community,
I’m writing here out of sheer frustration. My ROG Strix G15 (G513RM, 2022) has been experiencing a recurring black screen issue for quite some time, and it always seems to happen at the worst possible moments—during client calls or while working on critical tasks.
I’ve gone through multiple threads, but the solutions seem scattered, and none have permanently resolved my issue.
The screen goes black or freezes while the system itself continues to run (verified through Google Remote Desktop).
Device Manager shows the AMD GPU with Code 43, and AMD Adrenalin software disappears.
After multiple reboots, it returns to normal, but this can take 2–3 hours of repeated attempts.
Connecting an external monitor mostly works, but not always. This is not a practical solution for me since I travel frequently.
The issue initially appeared only at startup but now occurs during active sessions.
In some cases, the ASUS boot logo does not appear when the issue occurs.
A clean Windows installation did not solve the problem.
The shortcut Win + Ctrl + Shift + B does not resolve the issue.
Black screen after waking from sleep or hibernation
Screen flickers before going black
No ASUS boot logo when the black screen issue occurs
AMD Adrenalin software disappears or fails to launch
Laptop display goes black, but the external monitor works sometimes
Crashes mid-session, but system remains accessible remotely
Problem persists even after a clean Windows installation
Initially happened only on startup; now occurs frequently mid-session
Updated BIOS to the latest version
Downgraded BIOS to 325 (considered stable by some users)
Disabled Fast Boot in BIOS
Updated AMD graphics driver to the latest version
Rolled back the AMD driver to the previous versions
Completely reinstalled AMD drivers using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)
Disabled Windows Fast Startup
Performed a clean installation of Windows
I suspect this could be either a firmware (BIOS) issue or a software/driver conflict. If anyone can suggest:
A known stable BIOS version
Any specific driver or configuration tweaks
Or if moving to Linux has helped in similar situations
I am open to any solution that provides a permanent fix, as I cannot continue spending hours troubleshooting each time this happens.
I mainly use this laptop for remote desktop work and gaming, so performance stability is crucial.
Thank you for any guidance you can provide.

Hello,
I would say a hardware issue, the display switching can fail over time, this is responsible for controlling the GPU to iGPU modes so by default it should be using the AMD GPU for power saving and under more demanding tasks switch to the nvidia GPU. If the display switching fails you end up with a similar problem.
Or if something if running excessively hot it can glitch out, did you check temperatures? Try hardware monitor, press on + to see all the sensor readings. https://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.58.zip
Assuming it is just the display switch gone wrong you can try to make the laptop run on the nvidia GPU at all times. In the BIOS look for a display option, preferred display and set this to dGPU. (or similar). That should set the nvidia GPU to default upon booting and you will need to see how it goes. To verify when you check the monitor settings in Windows it should show the nvidia GPU being active and used, example like this.

Hi @ElectroStingz,
Thanks for your response.
I see—so this could be a hardware issue. Unfortunately, I don’t have an ASUS service center in my country, so I’d appreciate it if you (or anyone else) could suggest which component is most likely causing this problem. That way, I can guide my local repair technician. I understand they’ll need to inspect it to confirm, but I’d like to avoid them experimenting and potentially making things worse.
This issue started around December or January, so I don’t think it’s temperature-related. However, I’ve attached my temperature readings for you to review.
Additionally, I don't see any options to change my graphics to dGPU permanently in boot menu.
Thanks again!

Temps seem reasonable, if your BIOS has limited options then this is going to be tricky.
What about Armourycrate, do you have the option to choose GPU ultimate mode?
If you try Ultimate mode (assuming you have it) and it works without issues the fault will lie in the display switching chip (MUX switch)

Yes, and it is already at ultimate.
But whenever I face this issue I always see an issue with AMD graphics.
Also there isn't a MUX option in this laptop.

That ultimate mode is the switching option, when you check the monitor settings is it showing as running on the nvidia GPU (like in my screenshot?)
Something to try, not sure how this will work out so be prepared to enter safe mode if it fails. If the nvidia GPU is currently active, in device manager disable the AMD GPU. This will prevent windows using it so it should not switch or try to switch to it. Maybe it will help.

Thanks for the response. I truly appreciate your help.
Well I haven't exactly tried to disable the AMD GPU but I have tried to uninstall that device in response to which windows installed their own generic graphics driver which caused me the same issue.
I'll try and update you.
Thanks.

Most of the time its the cable some wires or one wrie is broken by the cause of bad installed in the hinge from the mainboard to the screen.
Check your cable if you can fix the broken line, fix it otherwise order a new cable for your laptop model.
