Periodic Wireless Network Drop

OK folks

After my long hard search to find my way into the BIOS setting, and still not finding an answer to my problem, I'll take another shot here. This is a brand new system, only had it for a couple of days. Runs like a ROCKET. But I've got one or two small issues I'm working on and am wondering if anybody else had any ideas.

First off. The wireless network is greasy fast, but it seems to disconnect by itself. I've gone though all the Windows power setting and made sure the system can't turn various hardware off (I'm running WIndows 8 by the way. Factory install), but it still seems to either be shutting down the wireless network card, or something in the hardware is doing it (Hence my search to get into the BIOS). Well I haven't had any luck there either. So I'm wondering what you all think.

My next question is how to make a Windows Recovery Disk for Windows 8. Usually there's a utility that will create the disk for you, either on the computer, or available for download. I haven't been able to find either. Wondering if somebody here can point me in the right direction.

As I said I have a brand new G75V. Factory BIOS, with a factory install of WIn8 on the system. Any input from anybody would be a big help.

hi, you mean your OS is not shipping image, that is factory image?
if yes, please send to ASUS service center to check it.
if no, you want ot recover imgage in win 8, please install recover utility for win 8, download at:

1) What version WiFi driver is displayed in Device Manager on your laptop?

2) What a) Security and b) Encryption is configured on your Router? Most folks are reporting connection success with WPA2-Personal Security with AES Encryption.

3) What signal strength are you receiving on your laptop?

4) Have you tried changing the Channel and/or reducing Channel Bandwith in your Router configuration?

1) Driver info and version is : Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter Driver Version Number 10.0.0.75. I currently have the power saving option in the device manager turned OFF

2) Those are the security settings I currently have on my router at this time

3) Signal strength is full. Where I'm sitting is probably less than 8 feet away from the router

4) Those I haven't tried. Would you have any recommended setting that you're haveing success with?

Thats pretty close Mike, but what I'm looking for is a utility that will burn out a DVD so that I can have a safe recovery disk in case of a hard drive crash, or something to that effect. If I lose one or more of the drives, my OS recovery is pretty much pooched. What I want is something that will burn out a Win8 disk that I can keep in a safe place in case I have to replace the drives and reinstall windows.

I think you need to update your Atheros WiFi driver to a more recent version (at least 10.0.0.216). Check out @rewben's post: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?25752-quot-Can-t-connect-to-this-Network-quot&p=189510&view... as well as his other posts in that thread. As you are doing now, keep the power saving option turned off.

You could try using Channel 1 or 11 and lower Channel Bandwidth to 20 mhz, but I believe your problem is most likely a driver issue.

SO you know you are not alone. I get this same thing as well.
Occasionally, wireless drops off for about a full minute then comes back up.

I finally gave in and got a usb wifi with 5ghz, the aethoros is garbage, and once my warranty runs out next year will be replaced with something that works 100%, so your not alone. for me it a minor, I knew going in on the g75vw the wifi was A. 2.4ghz, and B. this brand, but everthing else about the asus was worth not getting MSI

OK got the updated wireless drivers and things seem to be much better. Thank you dstrakele! I went (with my tail between my legs) slinked back into BestBuy (to my eternal shame) and asked how to create a restore disk. The little girl there knew less than I did about Win8, but I found out that I need to put it on a thumb drive now, instead of burning out an installation disk for Win8 like us old codgers used to do in the olden days. Oh well........live and learn.
