Hi ASUS Community,
I’m experiencing an issue with my laptop’s MUX switch when trying to switch from Optimus mode (integrated GPU) to the dedicated NVIDIA GPU. Here’s the problem:
When I launch a game or try to switch to the NVIDIA GPU, the screen goes black, and I’m unable to do anything. The only way to recover is to physically press the power button to turn off the laptop and then turn it back on.
To avoid this issue, I’ve currently set the NVIDIA GPU as the default option in the NVIDIA Control Panel, but this keeps the RTX GPU always on, which isn’t ideal for battery life or thermals.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Updated both the integrated GPU and NVIDIA GPU drivers to the latest versions.
Adjusted power settings to ensure the laptop isn’t switching to power-saving modes.
Checked for BIOS updates and updated to the latest version.
Reinstalled NVIDIA drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU).
Despite updating all my drivers and BIOS, the issue persists. Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, were you able to resolve it? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Laptop Model: ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2024) G834
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4090
CPU: Intel Core-i9 14900HX
Thank you in advance for your help!

hey man, best i could figure out was using ddu, BUT instead of using the nvidea app to install new drivers, grab whatever driver is listed on the rog site, and that fixed my issue, which isn't exactly like yours but close. my computer couldn't even switch to the dgpu in bios without booting up with a black screen. hope this can further help u.

I am also having this black screen issue, when playing forza horizon 5 for sometime and try to exit from the game, the game will close, but the screen stays black.
i tried to refresh the gpu ( wind+ctrl+shift+B) then the display will come back with a sound and goes again after one second. The screen will be normal only after the lap goes to sleep mode.
