Live update killed my USB ports

Stupidly I used live update and installed all the 7 updates for the G75 to then end up loosing the usb ports which were fine prior

The error in device manager is:
A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

This is for both of the intel 7 series / C216 chipset family usb enhanced host controller 1E26 and 1E2D as well as the intel usb 3.0 extensible host controller

I have downloaded both the chipset and usb drivers from ASUS site and both ran the installer and manually tried to update to no avail

The USB works till it hit windows and wont run anything including hard drives and mice

Another way to try I've just been told:

Uninstall USB 3 drivers.
Uninstall USB charger+ utility
Uninstall Live Update.

Restart the PC.

Windows should reinstall the USB drivers automatically as the PC boots into the OS. If not, download and install the USB 3 drivers manually from the ASUS site and install them.

Optional: Manually download the latest Charger+ and Live Update to install.

I found a fix for this in the registry. Hours of searching after Asus support could only offer a system restore.

Here is the process
Backup registry
In Device manager find the usb drivers with the issue ( code 32 )
Get its class GUID - right click -> properties -> Details -> (property device class guid) - something like {36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000} you can right click and copy to notepad
Then in regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
In the section for your device class guid delete the upper and lowerfilter keys
Reboot and usb ports start working.

Worked nicely for me. If uneasy with registry hacks remember to backup your registry ( regedit export \ import)

Yeah this just happened to me except after I updated my USB 3.0 drivers. I am not computer illiterate, but definitely don't speak hacker language or programming or anything like that. I just wish I knew how to fix this 😞

You should be able to uninstall the USB 3.0 Driver from Control Panel/Win 7 or uninstall it from Device manager Win 8 or 8.1, for win 7 install the latest on the Asus Support Download site for you NB and OS. For 8 and 8.1 USB 3.0 is natively supported by Windows, Allow the Windows driver to install works great on my NB with 8.1

As far as Asus live update is concerned there are warnings through these Forums. UNINSTALL IT, it can harm your NB
