[INTEL]-How To Update Your Microcode for Intel HX 13/14th CPUs Laptops/Mobile Easily.

Let me start with a small background info...

Since we know all Intel's fiasco about what is happening with Raptor Lake/Raptor Lake Refresh which is Intel's codename for the 13th and 14th generations of Intel Core processors, Most OEM/Vendors doesn't want to provide BIOS update that includes microcode update along with required updated Intel ME FW in order to work more effectively.

Since most laptops got outdated Intel ME FW & outdated microcode... this has become a serious problem since the CPUID of Intel HX 13/14th CPUs share the same code with Desktop variants and hence it should be considered Intel HX 13/14th CPUs as a Desktop CPU in a laptop case.

So it means they share the same impact as Desktop variants even if it doesn't boost enough to be of a concern, it does have relevancy and you now have the option to use this very simple driver that I am sharing it to you here on any Intel HX 13/14th CPUs Laptops/Mobile as long as it has CPUID of B0671.

Either way the requirement of updated Intel ME FW are just only mandatory when used in conjunction with any new microcode (If it's needed) in the BIOS but outside BIOS like... while running Windows or Linux this requirement of having an updated Intel ME FW is just optional.

Thanks to this VMware CPU Microcode Update Driver I can use it on any windows without needing to mess with the BIOS. Safest thing to update microcode.

Now... How to check if you got the latest microcode update or not? By simply check through HWINO64 or AIDA64 or even if you are using ThrottleStop tool will tell you which microcode you are using.

Here's some examples how it is shown which microcode are you using through various tools...

HWINFO64

AIDA64

ThrottleStop

Now fortunately I already packed it for you & ready to use without any further work required. Saving you the time to do it.

For the next part... You need to download this .zip file and extract it. Simply run the "Install.bat" file as an administrator.

The .zip file attached on this post look at the end of this post.

It shouldn't even take long and only few seconds and you will see this window... which is success.

You can even check the event viewer which confirms the success operation and applying the new microcode update.

DaBOSS_4-1723150154660.jpeg

Notice:- If doesn't update your microcode and it shows failing to apply microcode on event viewers... you need to disable virtualization either through Windows or simply go inside your BIOS and disable Intel virtualization and VT-d in the BIOS. This would allow the driver work!

September Microcode Update aka [0x12B]

New microcode update got released! This is the September microcode update which now they call it 0x12B .Please if you are using the 0x129 microcode previously then simply download the latest .zip pack from the attachment of this main post. Simply run uninstall.bat as admin [by right clicking on the file and choose "Run as Administrator"  and then run install.bat as an admin.

No need to reboot, You just updated your microcode! Yes... it's that simple!

If you ever wanted to uninstall your updated microcode for whatever reasons... simply run "uninstall.bat" file as an administrator & reboot your laptop.

Exactly, to get the full effect, BIOS update needs to be released and I think what Intel implying here is... updating Intel ME Firmware which is doable but risky for average/newbie users.

Desktop users already got updated Intel ME Firmware along with the microcode updates since 0x125 release through BIOS updates. For laptop users... Good luck.

For advanced users updating Intel ME Firmware can be done without any issues but I really wouldn't recommend it if not being familiar with the process.

Please can u write us the procedure for update Intel ME Firmware on Rog Strix 16/17/18 with 4090 series or link where we can read how to do? thx

Hello

You say that mobile processors (65 Watt) are not affected by this problem. (Intel/Asus) Well, when we use Armory Create in performance mode, don't we increase the power consumption of these CPUs. In this case, does the problem still concern us?

i d like to ask you a question and i hope i ll get the answer.  Intel recommends customers to update BIOS with Microcode 0x129 for systems configured with 13th and 14th Generation Processors with CPUID 0xB0671 but if u look up HX cpu like mine 13980HX the CPUID is identical so thats pretty clear support of update the microcode on laptops as well. it is clearly based on CPU identification  which HX share with K and KF CPU`s

All Raptor lake/refresh have the same cpuid number. But as I wrote many times before and got deleted by the moderator. The microcode/firmware distinguishes between different CPUs and applies the correct values to the specific CPU type. This microcode update is for the desktop CPU's. Intel clearly states for the second time, that the laptop CPUs are unaffected by the Vmin shift bug.

i get it. i did it anyway and let the cpu stress the hell out of it and my voltage is less then before 12B so i know i did it on mine responsibility but i also called asus european repair and disgnostic centre and they confirmed it can be applied to HX. so for me its closed now

It is the same microarchitecture, so logically it can be applied. The Vmin shift is a problem that occurs in idle or low power conditions, not under stress. Mine draws like 1 V and 153 Watts under full load (0x115 original ASUS BIOS), in comparison my desktop 13600KF draws around 1,2V and 180 Watts under full load with the 0x129 microcode. You can do what you want, as you wrote, it is your responsibility.  No problem with that, but my problem is, that there are a lot of people that don´t understand that updating to a firmware/microcode not provided by the laptop manufacturer, can void the warranty.  So a little bit of a warning "do at your own risk" in the original post would be nice.

completely understandable mate. a zdravim na slovensko

With all due respect Silent_Scone I think at this stage Intel has lost all credibility when it comes to this issue.

They have not been forthcomming about this and other issues so it is understandable people here have concerns ?

Remeber when they stated this issue only affected 1 or 2 cpu ? and then modified that statement to include many more cpu skew.

As much Asus does not want it to be an issue there are some credible reports from game developers of laptop cpu crashing just like the desktop cpu ?

Deleting posts of peoples concerns is not a good look for Asus..This is supposed to be a place where customers can discuss issues they are concerned about and deleting posts or banning people just shows everyone what Asus is really like ? Just because you disagree should not matter ,,people have a right to air their opinions and Asus should remain neutral in these matters and only intervene if someone is being outrageously rude or disrespectful ?
