Horrible frame rate dips on CS:GO (GL702VM, GTX 1060)

Hi guys,

I have a brand new ASUS GL702VM machine with the GTX 1060 (6 gb) graphics card in it. I have the latest Geforce drivers as well.

When I play Counter Strike Global Offensive (not a very demanding game), I get these frequent frame rate dips to the 30's or so which makes the game stutter..and it's affecting my game play. I have tried using Nvidia's GeForce experience program to "optimize" the game..and I've also tried just leaving the settings at the default level..same result.

My machine should be able to handle CSGO easily...it's a 2012 game, and even a 960m card runs it like butter. Doom 2016 (much more graphically demanding) runs very very smooth, on all ULTRA settings!

Any suggestions...anyone else see this issue?

GPU or CPU is probably overheating causing this. Try following this thread https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?89061-GL702VM-amp-similar-Solution-to-Performance-issues-O... and see if that helps.

Welcome to the forums!

Not sure if this is causing the problem, but if you have a 5400rpm 'spinner' hard drive in your system, check post #35 by 'Armesis' (thanks for the links Armesis) and related links if you are interested.
