hi guys im really excited to get one of this rigs but im thinking twice if i'll go for the G74sx because of the issues/problems owners post online.. and at the same time im not that of a fan of the G73sw because it has lower specs than the G74sx.. some told me to get the alienware M17x or MSI 780R, but I love the ROG more.. and seriously i dont want to choose other brands because of the flaws/issues that ROG is having.. 😞

ROG ftw!

thanks

Both are pretty good...the MSI GT780DX has a GTX 570m GPU though...Otherwise the G73sw and the G74sx has the GTX 460m and the GTX 560m which is not that faster than the Fermi...

The g74 is in no doubt a better machine. It has updated hardware, which therefor makes it more dominant over the g73. I recently upgraded my g73 to the G74sx-A1, and it is surely a noticeable change.

that helps a lot br4nd3n but how about the keyboard issues?? is your g74 ok?

I wouldnt realy say updated hardware...everything else is the same with the G73sw and the G74sx besides the GPU...the G74Sxhas the 560m but the G73 has a subwoofer

Just picked up(and am posting from) the G74sx after wrestling with this very question, here are some of the things that went into my decision. The GPU was a major deciding factor because it is one area that cannot be conveniently upgraded to extend the life/power of the machine. For this reason I went with one of the stripped down versions, no BlueRay, only one 500mb HD, etc. but avoided the BBK7 because it has the neutered GPU and Display.

As far as the keyboard goes, I updated the ATK/BIOS right off so I can't speak to any errors with the default system. From what I have seen, this has fixed almost any keyboard issue posted, at least for those who reported their results after having tried it. Since then the only issue I've encountered has to do with my lack of accuracy while getting accustomed to a new keyboard style.

On the audio side, adjusting the THX TruStudio every reboot is mildly annoying, but that is a short term software issue and thus wasn't a factor for the decision. There is a noticeable, if slight, lack of base, but the overall speaker sound quality is quite acceptable. I use earbuds or a gaming headset most of the time so my experience in this area is not terribly extensive and YMMV.

Great experience so far, though I still have a ways to go in order to put this through its paces for gaming performance. The most pleasant surprise was the lack of bloatware to uninstall, I was all set to do a clean wipe but it really does not seem necessary.

That was a bit more long-winded than anticipated, but I hope some of it has helped.

edit:To answer your question directly, the 73sw has been out long enough to work out the kinks and is likely the more stable at the moment. However the minor nature of issues with the 74sx and the rate that past ones have been fixed makes it the better choice in my eyes.

I haven't had a single issue with my Sx-A1 yet. The only thing I have a concern with is the audio, but I use a nice gaming headset with Dolby surround sound anyway. The G74 has a better GPU and that should be your deciding factor IMO.

How much Of a difference do you notice in the audio of the G74 as opposed to the G73? Is it really worth choosing the 73 over it? I've also seen that the 74 has better battery life, but that was only one review and they did not include the G73SW in it. Anyone got firsthand experience with that?

Correct me if i'm wrong. All I know is that the 460m GPU has more cuda cores in it (192) and the 560m has 128bit, so the 460m performs better in games.
