GTX660M Drivers Issue on G55vw

Hi guys

Need some advise here as I am faced with something really unusual. As of lately, my display drivers have been giving me issues, like game freezes and crashes as often as I start playing a game. It will freeze and switch to my desktop and then switches back to the game. And then poof, the game crashes. For example, when playing Deus Ex Human Revolution, it says my machine does not have sufficient resources to run it which is utterly rubbish. When I tried it on skyrim instead, same issue again, and this time it says my drivers kernel crashed and have since recovered ?

I thought that it might be the display drivers so I have tried from the original ver that came with the machine to the latest 304.79, but still the same issue occured. As long as its a game it does not work. I have tried formatting the SSD and reinstall the OS and with a clean install, without anything else, tried playing the games again but the issue is still there. It has only started happening recently and it worked perfectly fine previously. And yes, the games I am playing are all legit copies from Steam. Even my starcraft and Diablo does not work.

Any suggestions what I should do next as I am basically stuck here. Help is much appreciated.

Machine specs:

Is 304.79 the latest beta from nVidia or the one from laptopvideo2go?

I had this problem (with system resources) with a 650M card, but it's not showing on my 660M with the modded driver from laptopvideo2go.

I have also seen some problems with games if I run YM during playing. With you there might be another program maybe, with similar behaviour.

What YM does is just freeze the game in full screen or take me out of full screen in a window that cannot be made full screen unless I restart the game.

Without YM everythings works perfect.

Tried both but doesn't seems to be working either way. Have also tried using a normal HDD and other SSD I have but results are still negative. Suspect might be a faulty GPU

What about latest BIOS?

If your issue occurred only recently, try using Windows System Restore to restore your system to a time when you didn't experience this issue. If it resolves your issue, pay particular attention to what applications, drivers, and updates you install to your system.

Unfortunately this is no longer possible as I have formatted the original HDD and used as a backup device. Worst comes to worst might just send it in for RMA. Spoke to some guys at hidevolution and they suspect it might be a faulty GPU card. Guess G75 here I come ?

If you are considering an RMA, you may as well put the stock HDD back, perform an ASUS Factory Recovery from DVD, and see if you can reproduce the issue. It is likely that is what they will do at the repair center anyway. If THEY are unable to reproduce the issue at stock configuration, they'll just send the laptop back to you.

Since you posted "G75 here I come?", it sounds like your laptop is new enough that you are considering exchanging it for a G75. If that is the case, returning to stock configuration and perfomring an ASUS Factory Restore will remove any personal files from the OS partition, so it is still a worthwhile thing to do...
