GL552vw-dh71 ram upgrade questions

Hello! I own an ROG GL552vw-dh71 laptop with 16 gigs of ddr4 ram and I've been wanting to upgrade it to 32 gigs lately.

I'm an Architecture student and I use my laptop mainly for video and photo editing together with CAD, modeling and rendering programs like Vray which utilizes the CPU and ram rather than the GPU. Yes, I multi-task a lot and also, the more ram I would allocate on Vray, the faster the render would be. For example a 15 minute render with 1 gigs of allocated ram would be 5 minutes for 12 gigs of allocated ram. Of course, I would not want to allocate more to make way for other running programs and background processes. I tried and it just crashed my program, heh. Just to add, I also installed an SSD 2 months ago.

Anyways, I would like to ask 2 things.

1. How many extra memory slots does the unit have? CPU-Z and task manager tells me that I'm only using 2 out of 4 slots, but Im skeptical and I'm worried there are only 2 used slots with no other empty slots and I have to replace them both with two 16 gig ddr4 sticks...

2. Would the laptop support 32 gigs ram if ever?

2. Would 2400mhz ram be compatible with the laptop? I've been hearing mixed reports saying it's compatible and its not. The only 16 gigs ddr4 single stick ram I could find locally is 2400mhz. Well unless there are two extra slots, I could buy two 8 gigs of ddr4 2133mhz which are easily available.

Hello! I'm Russian and have problems with English))) I have a laptop Asus ROD GL552VW-DM321T.
I have the same situation. I do interior design ArchiCAD and Artlantis.
About the first - I don't know
But what about the second - I literally just found the accident link http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/ASUS/gl552vw#memoryResults
Well, there is official support from "Crucial", but not yet received an official response from technical support Asus...
I will look for information - many will require time....

Unfortunately I don't have any answers. However I'm gonna ask one more question 🙂

What brand did you chose for your ram, guys? I was thinking about Hyperx Impact, but I read on the internet that they might not work if the other ram doesn't match the brand. I'm not sure if I was clear.

I'm interested too, but like nobody is gonna say.
All I know is that two letters of recommendations for Kingston and Crucial
Kingston - http://www.kingston.com/ru/memory/search?DeviceType=2&Mfr=ASU&Line=GL552%20Notebook&Model=93540
For language settings at the top right
Crucial - http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/ASUS/gl552vw#memoryResults
For language settings at the top and to the left

However, the question is compatible or not with frequency 2400 RAM? And it is very important to me..... I want to max ang my laptop - GL552VW-DM321T

Thanks!

So, Kingston advise only 2133mhz rams whilst crucial suggest that 2400 also work.

I guess I've found the answers to these questions.

2400 will work? Yesterday I found a website that had tried Hyperx 16gb 2400 on a GL552VW. It worked as if the ram was at 2133mhz. So the answers is yes, if you buy a 2400 - according to that website - it will work but not at its full potential. Unfortunately I cannot find the website at the moment.

How many ram sticks can we stick? I'm afraid two is the answer. My english might trick me, but I guess that the "place" in which you insert the memory stick is called "socket". According to the following link, GL552VW has got only 2 sockets. http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks/ROG-GL552VW/specifications/
I've checked myself by opening my laptop and it appears that we've only got two sockets.

All indeed as you wrote! Yesterday at the store I asked the specialist and his answer like yours.
So you can buy with a frequency of 2400, if the money is not sorry.
It is important that we found the answer: Buy any the manufacturer only the frequency of 2133 MHz and all )))
