GL551 Backlit Keyboard Not Working

Hello all. I recently got an Asus ROG GL551JW laptop for Christmas. On the first night I noticed it was really difficult to see my keyboard. I know that I'm supposed to have a backlit keyboard, so I checked the hotkeys. FN+F3/F4 is supposed to adjust the brightness, but it does not seem to be working. I started doing some research and noticed people were saying to go on to Asus' support site and download the new ATK package that updates the hotkeys. I've tried fixing, uninstalling+reinstalling, and restarting in between all the steps and nothing seems to be working. One thing I noticed is that my lights didn't work right out of the box. Most people were saying that the lights turn on during BIOS and then turn off after startup, but mine doesn't even work during BIOS.

Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

You should see the lights flicker when you turn on the laptop. This takes the Windows OS out of the equation.

It looks like the LED might have been disconnected somehow...sounds like an easy fix, but I assume you can get warranty repair on it, or if you bought it new, the place you bought it from should exchange it.

Did it work at all from day 1?

Nope. My grandma purchased it for me on Newegg during a cyber monday deal, and I opened it up on Christmas morning. I'm sure they would exchange it for me, but it would be a hassle and a bummer to send back a brand new laptop after I installed all my programs already.

Any idea what kind of process it would be to open up and check connections?
