GL504GM built-in speaker volume fluctuating loud/soft

Hey everybody.

This laptop is a little over a month old, and I think the problem has existed since I had it. Basically when listening to audio, movies, youtube, etc, the volume will suddenly drop very low only to randomly spike again for a short burst before dropping back down, as if it's being equalized in the absolute worst, random possible way.

Here's what I've tried so far:

-Uninstalling Realtek driver and updating to the newest version
-Uninstalling Realtek driver and updating to previous versions (04/18 and 08/18)
-Sound>Communications>adjusting for sound calls to "Do Nothing"
-For the hell of it, attempted to change the sample rate and bit depth
-Also for the hell of it, did not allow applications to take control of this device
-Again, for the hell of it, disabling the NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (I'm not even 100 percent sure what it does, something for HDMI?)

So far, not so good. The problem does not occur when I use headphones, leading me to believe it is only a realtek problem.
There are no enhancements in the playback device properties, so nothing that would be equalizing it there.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hi everyone

I opened the laptop and checked the speakers. The rubber thing around the right speaker was not placed correctly so I put it back, and I unplugged and plugged back the speakers to the motherboard. I also upgraded my BIOS from 306 to 308.

Now it works fine, I'll let you know if anything pops up.

Today I wanted to fix a problem with sound. I think the problem is with very loud speakers. They are simply not configured. My guide for this problem.
1)Reinstall sound driver.
2)Install Sonic studio 3.
3) base mode> off effects sonic studio> equalizer> custom> configure every line -6db.
4) Restart your laptop.
It's work for me today. I don't know if this will work tomorrow or next week. I never, never, never will buy asus laptops.=)

You can also set -3db in equalizer or sound volume 50-60%.

if anyone is having this issue and can't find fix for it, i have what solved mine. There is a faulty hardware in right speaker that causes it to turn volume up and down. I did as i've seen in other post from this forum and opened my device and then went ahead to move that speaker cable and making sure it is well plugged in. And boom, problem solved.
Despicable that a product of this value has this kind of issues and must be the users who must take care to find the solution, but at least we can help each other in here

It works !!! Did the same - opened my laptop and checked all connections to the motherboard.
I also had a problem with cooling fans reving to high but they are ok now.

The problem came back after some time, but once again I opened the laptop and tighten the connectors (fan and speakers) and its gone. Definitely hardware issue.
Asus support still talks about new bios and resetting windows... RMA repair changed nothing.

I did the same as others posted. A few months back I opened my 504 up and noticed one speaker does have a poor connection. I have basically reinforced it in a way that hopefully the wire doesn't pull the connector back out.

GL703GS here and it started fading volume up/down depending on the loudness of the song (louder moments = volume fades too much)... So I hope is the same issue reported in this thread.
Did the wire unplugging and plugging back in definitely fixed it for you, or the problem came up again? Still wondering if is software or hardware...

In my case it completly solved the problem. I had to reinforce the cable since it seems the whole wire is faulty (stick it with tape from the speaker to connector to avoid any kind of movement). The only problem i faced later was the left speaker started crackling, wich was caused by the exact same hardware issue, wich i solved by the moment using the same method (avoiding attach it too much to the battery to avoid ground noise issues)
