GL502VSK 120Hz compatibility?

Hello guys,

I made the conscious decision to buy a laptop that has a 60Hz screen as a 120Hz display would be out of my budget. I usually game on an external monitor anyways, so I have no problem with this at all. However, I recently have started looking at upgrading my external monitor to a 120Hz one. Upon doing my research, I have discovered many articles and posts that outline that an HDMI cable does not support 120Hz and that this is only achievable with a DVI cable. I have also found articles that say that it is possible, but only with a special HDMI cable (1.4b or something along those lines).

What do I have to buy/do to make sure that if I purchase a 120Hz monitor, I can actually run a game on 120Hz with my current laptop?

Kind regards

For "most guaranteed" compatibility, try using the DisplayPort. I believe you can do 120Hz and 144Hz up to some resolution limit using specific HDMI or Dual-Link DVI cables assuming the monitors supports that specific cable - but why chance it if you're planning on buying a new monitor, anyway?

Furthermore, G-Sync will only work over DisplayPort connections.

Get a "Mini-Displayport to Displayport" cable/adapter to plug into a monitor, such as the ROG PG279Q.
