GL502VS(K) discharge issue questions

Hi Everyone,

*Seems like the previous threads about the GL502VS(K) battery discharge issue has been locked so I'm making a new one.

Bahz (ASUS) have promised a full credit for the GL502VS. It's not really clear to me whether the GL502VSK (KabyLake) model has fixed the power delivery issue.

From a customer point of view:

- which models AREN'T affected by the power delivery issue?
- if the GL502VSK is fixed, why isn't this a direct replacement instead of ASUS issuing a credit?

BTW I raised a support ticket with ASUS regarding RMA/credit return.

You've paid for a laptop with an Nvidia 1070 and you've decided to cap the framerate to 30FPS? Yeah that would push the power demand quite a bit - but still you've paid a lot of money for that GPU!.

I'm running a VR rig, and every title needs 90 FPS (whether native or generated with asynchronous time or space warp). The battery discharge issue is a big deal for users running VR titles for several hours.

Turned it off to get those few FPS more and nothing have changed so far. Still no substantial discharge while in charge. Although I have sometimes lines on a monitor (like on an old TV). I guess its a sync problem. But I dont know why. That was also the reason why I capped the FPS in Witcher 3 to 30. Because that fixed the problem.

If the "lines" look like the image is tearing (seen usually as a diagonal tear) and your monitor does not support GSync, try turning on VSync. This will lock the frame rate to the monitor refresh rate regardless of the output frame rate.*

Glad that the battery discharge issue is not an issue for you right now.

I just bougt a gl502vs-g233t here in denmark.
I tryed it yestoday gaming ghost recon wildlands for approx one hour. I didt not notice eny battery drain.
The laptop was delivered with v301 bios and a 230w power supply, maybe thats asus`s newest solution, just to upgrade the powersupply in the futured laptops ?

However im not sure, exactly how to test my machine for this problem - because, when laptop is at 100% battery, i dont think it charges before the powerlevel reaches 90 or 95% (not sure where i have read that) - is that your problem, or does yours keep draining power under 90% while plugged in and gaming ?

BTW does enyone play GRW on this laptop ? i set graphic settings to factory ultra and the performance is between 45-55 fps is that normal for a gtx 1070 ? why bother to put a 120hz G-sync monitor into the machine ?

I want to know exact the same thing, if a buy an 230 PSU the discharging problem will be solved? because I think at this point is my only option...
And yes, those FPS on a open world with Ultra settings and Gsync are kind of normal

I believe the situation being faced here is similar to what occurred with the G751 upgrade program where the information internally wasn't completely worked out. This kind of action internally like the G751 upgrade was a huge process which required much more internal communication to work all the fine details. I want everyone to be clear that this process will continue to progress but it may take some time because this has never been offered before and the point of sale is with retailers and not with us so technically by law and by process, we can't credit back directly and in some regions they "may" instead offer different alternative solutions (ex. upgrade to another model). Also please note that this isn't a straight up request for the aforementioned alternative solutions, it requires complete verification with each case to have the mentioned issue before it can be considered for the alternative solutions. I've suggested to some users to record a video to show the discharging issue as for each case the service team needs to recreate the issue for confirmation (required by internal process) and I can assure you that they won't be playing games on it to try and recreate the issue.

I will have to lock the thread and I've tried to offer as much additional details as possible. Please follow the original instructions in the announcement and provide me with all the information for your case if you encounter any issues with our service team. We're treating this case by case and we'll make sure every one of them gets handled. We do apologize for the delays but unfortunately it's going to be expected that there will be delays in this entire process.
