GL502VS Discharging while Plugged-in

Hi,

I have got the new GL502VS with the 1070 gtx in it.
After reading a few topics in other forums I saw that some people complains about the battery - saying that it keeps discharging while connected to the charger.
Then, I noticed that it happens for me too.
It's not a big deal, but around 8% in an hour of playing Mafia 3.

Do you guys aware to this problem?
Is there anyway to fix it?

I've talked to quite a few people, some reviewers and some understand a thing or two about gaming laptops.
They assumed this "issue" was intended and known.
Why did ASUS leave it that way? Portability. The 240watt adapter is bigger. (Personally I wouldn't care)

Alienware had the same issue with the 970m GPU. They just replaced all the customer's 180watt adapters to 240watt adapters.
I have no idea why ASUS are not doing the same. It should be possible and it shouldn't harm the laptop itself (I'm not an ASUS engineer, I'm just an electrical engineering student so don't trust me)

Well, that's just their assumption...
Anyhow, I encourage those who bought this laptop and experiencing this issue to return the laptop for a refund and get another laptop.
That's what I did and although I'm stuck with a 3 years old non gaming DELL laptop, I do not regret this a bit.

Same issue here. Playing games like Witcher 3, SWTOR, Rust, etc. all cause battery drain - likely because the adapter can't sufficiently keep up with the draw. The adapter also gets quite hot due to being maxed out like it is. I've had an ongoing conversation with cl-tom@asus.com, who recommended that I send the laptop in for an RMA replacement, but I'm sure I'll just get another unit back with yet another 180w supply and the same problems. What are we supposed to do?

ya everytime they wanna shut someone up they tell him to go to tech supp then RMA. it is like waste land there.
anyway , if you can refund your laptop. if you cant, keep annoying them with at least 10 posts per day. so maybe they would hire an ACTUAL engineer to solve those issues.

Just a quick story of how I dealt with this problem.

I've sent my 502vs to ASUS' lab in my county after talking to their tech support which had no idea (well, they never do so its acceptable).
Im an electrical engineer student so I know a thing or two about electricity. I slipped a note into the laptop in order to deliver a message to the lab.
I've said: "Hey, this laptop is discharging while plugged. The adapter does not supply enough power. I need the 240w adapter and not the 180."

I did not check if the 240w would do, as I did not plan the laptop and I do not know if the unit can be damaged by that (most likely it wont, but I didnt want to take any chances).

The lab responded: "The unit is defective. we will replace it with a new one. You will get the new one in the next 21 days"
I told them "Hell no" and demanded a refund.

Moral of the story - tech support does not help. Switch this unit

My only concern is what amperage wire the adapter is at this point. I have seen other adapters like it on eBay, but this seems like it should be the right combination to do what we're looking for.

I'll report back once I have it. I did one-day shipping, so I should know tomorrow night.

I solved my problem. Just lucky I noticed it the first day and I returned it to the store for a refund. They gave me a second one to try and it did the same thing. I got my refund the next day. Today, I went back in and bought an MSI GT62VR. I'm still getting it set up, but very happy with it so far.

I only came back here to post this in the hopes Asus will take notice they are losing sales and make things right for all of the customers stuck with their computers and can't get a refund.

I was very loyal to Asus since my old G73 has lasted 7 years and still works. That's why i honestly only shopped for an Asus this time around... The GL502 is a great laptop, hopefully they give you guys a bigger power supply. I'm now a happy MSI customer I guess.

This MSI is identical in most respects component wise, and it came with a 230 watt adapter. It's not really that much bigger or heavier than the little 180 I had with the Asus either.

Does anyone know how many watts the WiFi adapter uses?

I ask because I may've stumbled onto a fix. While playing Assassin's Creed: Syndicate on Ultra, I noticed the discharge again. Since I was only playing single player, I disabled the WiFi adapter and boom - the discharge stopped!

I need to test some more to verify that this truly works - maybe I just had the right alignment of moon & planets 😛 But if it does, this is a concession I can live with - if I need internet access to play Multiplayer, I'd be using ethernet anyways. Can someone else also test on their end?
