Hello

I bought my laptop one month ago and for the past two days i have fps drops. I mostly play CSGO Dota 2 and sometimes Paladins.
Ihave latest nvidia and Intel drivers
While playing CSGO i have 200fps but then for half a second i have 90 fps!!! and this happens instantly not after some period of time
This also happens in Paladins, i have 150-200 fps there but some thimes i have 30!!!! FPS
This is annoying issue its unplayable

Thermals after 15 mins of csgo

I switched my fan in ROG app do 5400 RMP but when i did it i had 30!!! fps in dota
I read threads on this forum and uninstalled rog app but its still the same

EDIT: While watching YT at fullscreen it sometimes lags for couple of seconds with audio playing. This is happening since i bought laptop but i tough its because Nvidia optimus

Any advice ?

Hello,

Since the temperature is fine.
I would recommend to update your BIOS in case it's not.
I have done it for my GL 552 and it improved a bit more my FPS.

Are you facing this issue only with these 2 games?
If you run any test or Benchmarking, happen as well?

Also check if your laptop is set up as performance in the battery configuration, Nvidia configuration and Intel Graphics settings.
Do you have any other app that takes too much RAM like antivirus or many stuff opened?
In last case if all of these do not work, try to set up windows as performance, Control Panel\System and Security\System\Advanced System settings\advanced\settings\ option adjust for best performance.

Let's see if this can help you out.

I just checked temps again

87 degres and its throttling

for **** sake, i bought this laptop 1 month ago.

Hi!
"It's 87" means it's max detected or average value? If average - it seems quite not right. But just quite.
For this laptop average 80-85 under heavy load is "normal" - I have such temp too (in Dark souls III, for example). This model, unfortunately, heats up too fast.
Tech support says 85 is max recommended temps, so, i think, 87 on peak is not so bad, but cooler is better, of course. Also, it starts throttling already at 82-83 C and because of this 87 is peak, not 90+. But it seems that even 80-85 is not so good in terms of laptop lifespan. You can lower temps for ~10C with disabling Intel Turbo Boost: Control Panel > Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Maximum processor state > set 99% (minimum should also be lower 100%). It will make processor operate on base frequency, but will also keep it from overheating (it became 73-75C , very rarely 80). This will not signaficantly reduce game peformance: in Dark Souls III it keeps fps 55-60 as it was at 100% maximum state, and only in one location, in leads to ~10 frame drop (1600x900at Max; however, 1920x1020 does not make noticeable difference, only ~5-7 fps).

Also, fan boost seems to be glitching, I met several threads here where people complain that maximasing fan speed even led to shutdown. My first laptop (also gl553vd) did so, and I managed to exchange it. Second seem to work correctly.

But what in your case is bothering me, is that i did not notice fps drops even while throttling. Check with Gaming Center, what are processors' core frequencies when you maximase fan speed to 5400? If you set 5400 with single displacement of the slider and then freqs go 799 Mhz and stay there - it's bad, try to exchange laptop.
Also, use smth like HWInfo64 and make a record of temp/voltage/freqs values via sensors mode.

I set max cpu state to 99 and lowest to 98

I read that high cpu temp can lead to down clocking on the gpu. When i was playing Paladins i had 160 fps on max and sometimes my fps dropped to 30/40 for a 2/3 secdonds. I did undervolting yesterday and its working fine for now but this is annoying. I paid 1k for this laptop and after 1 month u must do this weird stuff to make laptop work properly.

I think i will go to the shop tell them whats happening and ask them about refund

Maybe it's just what must be done.
But also maybe it's not about current laptop, but about Palladins on laptop CPU/GPU at all.

When you turn your Fan Boost over 60-70% the CPU will go down in speed, its a bug in the Rog Gaming Center. Just set it on Auto 🙂

Hi Simon942,

I am facing same problem with my Rog gaming center with CPU going down in terms of speed with fan boost over 60-70%
*
Have you come across any solution for this bug in ROG gaming center..also any idea of an alternative software for increasing fan speed? I tried MSI afterburner and speedfan but they are locked perhaps due to locked BIOS

Cheers!!**
