G75VW Randomly Freezes

A couple months ago I got a new G75VW (16 GB RAM, Intel i7 processor, Nvidia Gforce 670M graphics card, Windows 7 ultimate 250 GB SSD, 750 GB Sata HDD) and I did a clean install of windows on the 250 GB SSD. Only windows, and my antivirus program (Kaspersky Pure 2.0) are installed on the SSD, everyhting else (office, games, all other programs, etc...) are installed on the Sata HDD. The computer randomly freezes and I can't move the mouse or use ctrl+alt+delete or anything. I have to do a hard reboot. There are no events in the even viewer around this time that points to anything other than an event saying the computer unexpectly shut down ( I know it unexpectly shut down I had to do a hard reboot). The freezing happens at random. Sometimes I will be browsing the internet (I use Opera if that makes a difference), sometimes I will be watching a video from my hdd, sometimes the computer will be idle and have nothing running (except background services and antivirus program), and sometimes I can have it running for an entire day while using it to watch movies all day, and no problems, other times it can freeze 4-5 times in a day. All my drivers are up to datem and Windows is updated as well. I really don;t know what is causing this. Any ideas? Thanks.

Try a Live Linux session and see how that works for a time.

Try to remove the HDD. Try to check the RAM. See temperature log.

1) What applications have you installed to your laptop. Driver conflict is a typical cause of system lockups and Antivirus, AntiMalware, Firewall, Remote Access, and Disk Management software are the usual suspects. Selecitively uninstalling suspect apps, then REBOOT, and attempting to reproduce the lockup is one way to troubleshoot.

2) Bad Memory can also lead to system lockups. I recommend running memtest86+ on memory stick pairs using at least 3 passes each to test that your memory is sound. Any reported errors is a fail.

3) Make sure you are runnng the latest firmware for your SSD.

Thanks guys I will try those suggestions. For the SSD firmware I'd assume I can get that from the SSD manufactures website? As for programs installed I have:
On SSD:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Kaspersky Pure 2.0 (antivirus)
Opera (web browser)

On HDD:
Diablo 3
Office 2010 home and student
Steam (and a bunch of steam games)
UTorrent
VLC media player
The Secret World (MMORPG)
Adobe PDF reader
Cisco VPN client
League of Legends
iTunes
Songbird
Samsung Kies

Yes, see what tools you can find on their site for upgrading.

I forgot to mention that I also have a Linksys AE3000 wireless N adapter plugged in (so I can get my 5ghz Wireless N band on my laptop). Could this be causing the crashes? The built in wireless is running at the same time (it's connected to my wireless B/G band).

I updated the SSD firmware and the computer froze once yesterday (this was after I updated the SSD firmware). Today I'm running a memory test on it and so far it seems good, there are no memory test errors (yet).

Having multiple drivers from different developers performing the same function is probably not a good idea, since it may lead to driver conflicts.

1) Can you reproduce the lockup with the AE3000 wireless adapter uninstalled from your system?

2) If you uninstall the built-in wireless adapter from Device Manager and use the AE3000, can you reproduce the lockup?

i had a similar problem a while back w/ my first G75, but it actually turned out to be a faulty mobo, im currently on my 3rd G75. in that thread dstrakele gave me some good advice... theres actually a couple of threads, you can find them by searching my forum posts... i hope that helps.
ROG Notebooks: G75VW, G74SX, & G73JH And a gaming rig.

I uninstalled the AE3000 wireless adapter and so far so good. It's been two days without freezing, and yesterday I was using the computer pretty heavily too. Fingers crossed.....

The problem isn't the AE3000 wireless adapter. Because the computer froze three times on me yesterday. Once while I was downloading something, once while I was printing a web page, and once while I was watching a video. I guess it's time to contact ASUS support. I hope it's not the motherboard. I don't want to send my laptop away and be without it for a few weeks
