G75VW Randomly Freezes

A couple months ago I got a new G75VW (16 GB RAM, Intel i7 processor, Nvidia Gforce 670M graphics card, Windows 7 ultimate 250 GB SSD, 750 GB Sata HDD) and I did a clean install of windows on the 250 GB SSD. Only windows, and my antivirus program (Kaspersky Pure 2.0) are installed on the SSD, everyhting else (office, games, all other programs, etc...) are installed on the Sata HDD. The computer randomly freezes and I can't move the mouse or use ctrl+alt+delete or anything. I have to do a hard reboot. There are no events in the even viewer around this time that points to anything other than an event saying the computer unexpectly shut down ( I know it unexpectly shut down I had to do a hard reboot). The freezing happens at random. Sometimes I will be browsing the internet (I use Opera if that makes a difference), sometimes I will be watching a video from my hdd, sometimes the computer will be idle and have nothing running (except background services and antivirus program), and sometimes I can have it running for an entire day while using it to watch movies all day, and no problems, other times it can freeze 4-5 times in a day. All my drivers are up to datem and Windows is updated as well. I really don;t know what is causing this. Any ideas? Thanks.

Dear free rangers, i just founded this thread, because i was searching for possible solution, for my freeze problem. i had exactly the same model as yours, with the same specs, i change from HDD to SDD (vertrex 4 ocz) 256gb for my base operating system. already update all my hardware , notebook bios, sdd firmware, video drivers, and the problem still persist. i would like to know if you find a solution to your problem.

because the symptom is totally randomly, sometimes pass days and the freeze do not occur, and can happen playing games, or just working in outlook, or web browsing.

any light in the dark tunnel?

The same story, Asus G75VW freezes randomly, first time problem appeared month ago after using notebook more than half year. OS - Win 7 x64, Hdd - original 2*750Gb, Ram - 8Gb.
I think problem could be with nvidia drivers, I updated it to last versions few times, from official nvidia site.

if you got a gforce driver 320.x you may experience this problems (is well known for a lot of gforce mobile cards).
Actually downgrading to 314.22 will solve this issue.

I have also been having this problem as of a little while ago. And also half a year ago.

When I first started having these random windows freezes I pinpointed the problem to Firefox, which has been known at the time to freeze Windows 7 systems when attempting to do hardware acceleration.

It didn't freeze for around a while, and recently it's started up again. No idea what the issue is this time as I haven't made any significant (or insignificant) hardware or driver updates to my system.

Also when windows freezes it seems like my hard drive light near the side stops blinking. I'm assuming that this happens with any system freeze since it's when the harddrive stops responding?

I've been searching for this Freezing problem for a while and realize that this is a product problem.

I just bought my G75VW last week and it freezied a bout 10 times since then, randomly of couse.

Many user got this too and at this point none can find a solution. ASUS must have a proper answer.

Freezing is a general problem that can affect any computer and caused by different things including software and hardware, so normally takes some effort to figure out.

If you haven't already, you may also want to contact your local ASUS support through the page below to troubleshoot and discuss especially if you are still under warranty.

http://support.asus.com/Hotlines.aspx?SLanguage=en

Otherwise, feel free to continue troubleshooting at this site if you prefer, but you normally want to make sure the problem is not related to software before you start trying to check the hardware.

If there is a hardware problem, your local ASUS repair office should be able to diagnose and replace the defective part, so be sure to get this done while the notebook is still under warranty.

Edit by cl-Albert: Forgot to mention random problems will make it more difficult for ASUS repair to solve if they cannot catch them, so try to provide any suggestions that you can to catch the problem (when does it usually happen, how often, etc.).

Good luck!

Were all the above activities leading to lockup run through the Opera Browser? If you use a different Browser do these lockups still occur?

No. When I was downloading something I was using Utorrent. When I was using the internet that was through Opera. But when I was watching a video that was via windows media player.

When I have this kind of problems my first try is a Live Linux.

I did run live linux. I ran it for a day without any problems, but having said that for the past couple of days I didn't have any problems with windows either. Tuesday and Wednesday my computer ran fine, but Thursday it froze three times. Perhaps I need to run linux for longer to see if the problem happens?
