G75V keyboard service

Cadapult
Level 7
The "D" key on my 7 month old laptop popped off, with a tiny clip on the upper left corner having snapped off. A tech on ASUS Live Chat tells me I can remove the keyboard and send it in and they'll send me a new one. That doesn't sound too kosher to me, I would think that kind of dismantling would void the warranty. I hate shipping my baby to CA for a couple week repair trip, so any opinions on sending the whole deal, just the keyboard, or are just the key caps available somewhere?
Thanks

Welcome to the Republic of Gamers forums, Cadapult.

I'm not familiar with the G75V's keyboard. But is the clip broken? Usually you can align up the clip and then slide the key downward the "popping" it back in. Perhaps you can upload a picture of the mechanism. I'll see if you need a new key.

OMG!!!!
What the Asus customer support tech suggested is no easy task!
You need to tear down the whole laptop to do so, a key replacement would be more in order!
If you filed for the ADP (Asus Accidental Damage Policy) you should be covered there!

PS: I can't believe the Tech suggested that!

you can ask asus service center, is it having kb in there, if yes, you take to asus service to change it, you don't need wait for a week.

Chino; Thanks for the welcome! I've visited a ton, just hadn't posted.
The key cap has two small clips on the underside towards the top of the key, shaped like the letter "C". One of the "C"s is broken. I can snap the key back on but it quickly pops back off with use.

Mike_Lu; unfortunately the nearest service center is at the opposite end of the state, about 8 hours/450 miles away. Too far to make it worthwhile taking it in for repair.

Guess I'll start looking for someone who carries keys for the G75. It's the only computer I own and it's in use every day so I don't want to be without it for a couple weeks if I can help it.

Thanks guys-
