G73sw LED Under Monitor.

So I bought a manufacturer refurbished G73sw-XR1 recently since my younger brother has always coveted the G73 >> G74 and G75. I was surprised to notice that the Blue LED under the screen does not work. After searching around I discovered on a couple threads talking about how the G73SW series do not have the LEDs installed. So my question is, can I just order the LED lights from the JH or JW series , from eBay, and install them in? I would assume that it would work considering the models are all similar except for the processor and the main board. Some images show that the LED connector is still present on g73sw main board.

Congrats on your new purchase! I recently bought a refurb SW-XR1 too. I've already installed two SSDs and removed the nasty WD 5400rpm 640 GB hdd. It was insanely slow. I looked into the screen bottom LED too, and decided it wasn't worth it. Post a "how to" if you ever get it to work! 😮

Thanks billyray520. Congrats to you as well. I too removed the slow HHD and installed an ssd and my spare caviar black 750GB from my g74. I might as well attempt it and if it works, I'll post a how to. The LED strips seem to be about 5-10 bucks on eBay w/ free shipping so it wouldn't be a big loss for me to try it out.

if you want to dismantle by youself, i suggest you send back to ASUS service center to install it, if you are in warranty.

Do you mean that you can add the under screen blue LED strip, even though they never worked, nor were they intended to work, on the G73SW when new, if you are under a refurb warranty?

Do manufacturer refurbrished warranties count because I have mine for 90 days. Also, I switched out the hard drive to an SSD + HDD combo and did a complete reinstall of windows 7 because AI Recovery doesnt work after being refurbrished. APparently it has something to do with protecting the data on the original hard drive that came with it. If I could send it in to have the LED installed that would be really sick.

@Mike_Lu Like billyray520 mentioned, its been noted that the G73Sw series has been confirmed to not have the LED light installed due to apaprently some feedback from previous G73 owners about it being annoying. The Blue FIlm is there but the LED board is missing. So is it possible to send it back and have an Asus Service Center install the LED under the monitor on an Sw series G73? I've heard that some indivduals tried it using an LED from the other G73s but it would not light up.
