So I have had this laptop for 2 or 3 years with little to no issues. Last week, I started seeing notifications that the charger was disconnecting and immediately reconnecting. When this happens, I also notice the charger's tip getting hot to the point where it burns to the touch. This only seems to happen when my laptop is under load(Playing Oblivion Remastered). I'm not sure if it's an issue with the charger itself, the charging port, or something worse. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hello,
When you look at the charging tip (power supply end and laptop) do they look burnt or slightly dark / black. (you are looking for signs of carbon / like if things are sparking it will eventually cause the metal to become dull and black).
If not a very common issue with laptops in general is the charging socket solder joints become weak, this is usually ok until there is a high power draw as the socket causes too much resistance / sparking and that generates a lot of heat. Inspection of the socket / solder joint is the only option for this.
Also how good / tight is the socket when placed into the laptop and is it the original charger? Universal ones / non standard replacements can also cause this when there is poor contact from the socket / tip. Sometimes the difference can be 0.5mm or less but due to the tiny gap it's internally sparking causing the excess heat on load (high current / power draw).
When I say sparking, its voltage arcing on a very low scale, sparks wont be flying but it's such a small gap that you will not hear or see it, this gap causes poor contact and heat to the point that it can melt both sides of the DC jack (socket in the laptop and plug on the power supply).
So it's quite a serious issue if left and you should stop using it especially underload until fixed.

I have yet to see any sign of carbon or corrosion on the charger or port. The charger port is also as tight as it ever was. I just went ahead and ordered a new cable hoping that'll fix it.

That's a shame, what laptop did you get?
As to the old one, don't bin it as if it's fully working apart from the port someone might want to buy it for parts or to fix it. (unless you did a trade in option :))

I took a pinch from my savings and ordered a G835LX-XS97. Im gonna hold onto the old one and either try to fix it later or sell it for parts
