Hi all,
I have done a lot of research regarding this topic and the general consensus was that with the latest 331 BIOS, the i9 13980HX would work perfectly fine with 32GB of RAM at 5600MT/s, as long as the memory modules are single sided.
So I let out and purchased a set of Kingston Fury Impact, code KF556S40IBK2-32. I know these laptops do not support XMP, so I made sure to see that it was the PnP model, as others have also done.
For some reason, no matter how much I troubleshoot, no matter which slot I put each stick in, or even if I run just 1 stick, it wont run past 4800MT/s.
For me this is extremely frustrating as I paid a premium for the faster speed and lower timing from Kingston, however, I feel like I am missing something. Did memory compatibility go backwards with the new 331 BIOS?
Please help, any input is valued!

Hi,
This Ram modules are running at 5600 on Strix G16 with 13980HX CPU: https://www.alternate.fr/G-Skill/32-Go-DDR5-5600-Kit-M%C3%A9moire-vive/html/product/1918976

Hello,
It's a slightly odd one for 2 reasons, Asus list your model as 4800MHz but Intel list the CPU as supporting 5600MHz depending on certain factors, such as memory size and number of slots used. Sometimes it really does come down to the CPU not being able to run at that speed due to the memory controller (within the CPU).
But ruling out the obvious first, did you definitely receive the correct kit you ordered? Mistakes do happen.
And with both memory modules installed did you try a bios reset / EC reset? Usually you would have the laptop off, plug the power supply in then hold the power button down for 30-40 seconds and wait for it to reset.

Hi there,
I have tried that many times. The laptop actually came with 5600MT/s memory pre-installed from Asus, which registered @ 5200MT/s. I just bought this laptop and upon setup it automatically did the BIOS update to 331, so I never got the chance to see if it was running at the nominal speed, however, it still makes me really upset that even after I did multiple BIOS resets (yes with the power button), even with only 1 stick installed, that I am only seeing 4800MT/s. This laptop should be capable of more, and this RAM configuration ticks all the compatibility check boxes.
Hell, I have seen other users use this exact memory with no issues... So I really wonder what gives. I have a feeling Asus went backwards in this BIOS update, and it's really anticonsumer behaviour locking us out from rolling back to an earlier BIOS revision.
Is there something else I am missing?

I think that's pretty much all you can do at this point.

Well that is very interesting... The Kingston has the EXACT same specs, I wonder why it's not being recognised..
In that case, before I try return this RAM, would you be able to do some RAM benchmarks of your choice so I can compare the performance difference? It might not even be a big deal, I just need reassurance lol.. Pretty frustrating.
Thanks!

Here's a sample from Aida64 trial version

Here's mine.. Seems like I have enough performance missing to bother me 😕
My Cache speeds are blazing compared to yours though.. I do have a pretty aggressive undervolt.. I wonder if that has got anything to do with it!

can't say... I did a quick test and was under windows power plan. Maybe you were also running another power plan (Turbo?)
Also notice i did not activate all cores in my CPU (only 6P and 14e, hyperthreading disabled)
Edit : for the fun, same bench with all cores activated, turbo mode. Notice I'm now much higher on some scores, but still lower than you in others.
PS: I did not deactivate any security features in windows (core isolation, virtualisation etc)

Well that doesn't make me feel any better 😞 Guess I'm lodging a return!
