This is an older model g17 with 2070 super circa 2021. Since it was well out of warranty and I noticed the fans were running loud a lot more frequently than usual, I decided to open it up and do a thorough cleaning while also replacing the oem liquid metal cpu paste (which was terribly applied and only covered around 60 percent of the die) as well as the rtx super with ptm7950.
Install went smoothly. However, after running cpu/gpu stress tests (which the thermals reported by armoury crate were well within specs), I soon discovered that my battery had suddenly and quickly died.
Now being that the laptop is nearing 4 years old on oem components, the battery itself probably wasn't in the best condition (I rarely ever used the laptop outside of a desktop station always plugged in), but the fact that it abruptly dropped out after doing stress tests is odd. I have included a windows battery report. The odd thing is, in the Windows 10 task bar report center, it shows as 100% charged (of course incorrect), while in bios it correctly reads 0%. Have tried turning off the laptop and holding down the power button for 1 minute without the ac adapter plugged in to see if that could jumpstart the battery. Nothing.
I can certainly buy a replacement battery, but now I'm worried that somehow something may have killed the actual interface or charging port? I made double sure the battery connector was plugged into the motherboard correctly and firmly. Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated, thanks.
