G16JIR Apps crash with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ

Hey,

so I'm having issues and apps like: Firefox, Discord and TradingView are randomly crashing

on Firefox tabs are just crashing, Discord randomly restarts and when I saw the logs on firefox it says "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ".

I have tested absolutely everything in my mind: CPU,Disk,RAM tests and they all checkout good.

I have also pre-installed my Windows 11 Pro, tested each command like "sfc /scannow" or the dism health checks

and I really have no idea why is it happening, I contacted Microsoft Support but they just told me to pre-install it and I did yet those crashes happen too.

I'm having the benefit of the doubt It's the defect on the 14th gen i9 processor but I doubt because I have this laptop for almost a year now and to occur in the last month.

Everything such as windows, drivers and bios is updated to the latest available version

If any one of you knows any suggestion or even solution I'll deeply appreciate any help!

Here are my Specifications:

  • Intel Core i9-14900HX (1.6/5.8GHz, 36M)
  • NVIDIA RTX 4070 8GB GDDR6 DLSS 3
  • 32 GB DDR5 5600 MHz
  • 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD

Hello,

How did you test everything? (would be good to know your testing methods before suggesting stuff as it might be what you already performed)

When you say pre-installed windows 11 what do you mean? (used the recovery options?)

Have you upgraded the RAM or is it just 1x32GB module?

Do any of the issues occur if you run on only the battery? (assuming you have not touched the power profiles, on battery mode it should limit the CPU to 2.2GHz and run on the Intel GPU).

What happens if you set the display in the BIOS to dGPU (this will force the nvidia GPU to be used at all times)

so here are the commands I've tried:

1. sfc /scannow

2. chkdsk /f /r

3. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

4. mdsched

Yes I did use the recovery options to reset my pc and kept my files

I haven't upgraded my RAM, It's 2x16

The issues persist whether it's on battery or plugged it,

In Armoury Crate I made the GPU mode to 'Ultimate' which uses the Nvidia only

edit: I just did memtest86 test and it passed

So its just these 3 programs?

If you create another Windows User account and log into that one does it still happen?

Also what antivirus software are you using? (some can cause problems)

yeah the crashing continues, and I'm using the Windows Defender and the applications are excluded so i'm not really sure

Try the BIOS dGPU option, using the windows profile option / armoury crate is not the same as it will keep the intel / switching device active.

Memtest is good but under certain conditions hardware reserved memory locations cannot be tested so consider trying 1 memory module at a time to see if things change.

And windows update from an older version to 24H2 for example is known to sometimes cause problems so its best to go for a full wipe and use the microsoft ISO / media creator. It creates a bootable USB with the latest build.

Download Windows 11

Choose this option : Create Windows 11 Installation Media

I am on dGPU on the BIOS and they're continuously crashing

although it's really random, sometimes it's often, sometimes it's normal.

Is it possible to fix it without going full wipe?

I could try uploading some logs if you'd like

Sure if you have logs lets take a look, do you have a spare nvme drive to test a clean install?

I don't have spare nvme, I'll ask around if my friends do have one to test.

But here are some quick firefox logs:

https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/57e40a40-da0d-4777-bf05-3cd4e0250420

They all have one similar thing and it's the "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ"

Discord logs are encrypted and only their staff can read it.

EDIT: okay so I crashed today twice ( BSOD ) and I haven't seen such one before the background was semi-transparent and I could see the last thing I opened before the crash.

I decided to download some app 'BlueScreenViewer' and both crashes from 'ntoskrnl.exe'.

1st string was "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION", 2nd "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL".

I'll search around and update on this.
